+TheRedArmy Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 i can get a Vista eTrex locally with NO cable for about $60CDN. can somone post a link to how much the cable is going to cost, or should i just wait for a complete unit. the guy said it's only been used 5-6 times and he is original owner, but how do you loose the box, software, cable and manual that fast? sounds like it might be a lost & found item. anyone care to shed some light on this? +Randy58 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I have an E Trex. You can download the manual from the Garmin website. The original model did not come with a cable. They will sell you a cable for $35.00. However, there are plenty of sites on the net that can help you make a cheap cable. Or, there is even a guy who can sell you a cheap cable. Send an email to: Ed Criscuolo [ed@chessie.com] Tell him what you have and what you need. He can sell you a cheap one. Randy Quote

+briansnat Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 If it's the old Vista and not the CX or HCX, you'll need the cable and likely a USB/Serial adapter. Through Garmin they'll run you over $60 together. For what you pay for the Vista and the cables you can buy a new Venture HC. You can find after market eTrex cables cheaper on Ebay and I've even seen one that is an eTrex USB cable, but I can't vouch for the quality. Still, pnce you get a cable you'll have yourself a unit that doesn't perform very well under trees compared to the newer units. I've read recently of refurb Venture HCs going for $79 with full Garmin warranty. If that is the case then that would be a far better deal. Quote
