Pi in SC
The kids and I completed our first cache today and had a great time. But it was not without a few frustrations using the new Garmin Vista. Hoping the kind folks here can help... 1) We decided to go for a multi cache for our first time and found the first clue quickly. But I could not figure out how to enter the new coordinates into the GPS to take us to the second cache...? I dont EVEN want to tell you how I had to do it... 2) I dont like the fact that when I down load the geocaches to the GPS, they show up as Waypoints/in the waypoint list. The list is getting long and I would prefer they show only under geocaches, is there any way to seperate them? 3) I also dont like now that I have a good many waypoints listed, that when I go into view them the "alphabet" dialog box comes up to help take you down the list, can this be turned off? Thanks! Paul Quote Link to comment

Thanks! Paul OK we will try to tell you as much as we can. here we go. 1, If you hold down the rocker pad, or sometimes known as a D'Pad for about three seconds it will bring up a screen that lets you put in new coordinates. 2, make sure that you have them as a geocache emblem. we are pretty sure that they always show up in both waypoints and the geocache section. 3, when you are looking at the waypoints click the menu button (the one one the bottom of the right side of the unit) there is the option of find by name(that's what you have it on) or find by nearest. We hope we were able to help you . Cachensfun Edited May 3, 2009 by cachensfun Quote Link to comment

jmundinger
Go to the garmin website and download the user's manual for the Vista c, a discontinued model. The manuals for the older models are more complete than for the newer models, but the functions are about the same. Quote Link to comment

Worked great. THANKS! 2, make sure that you have them as a geocache emblem. we are pretty sure that they always show up in both waypoints and the geocache section. Yeah, they are. Played some more and I was unable to determine how to seperate the two lists. 3, when you are looking at the waypoints click the menu button (the one one the bottom of the right side of the unit) there is the option of find by name(that's what you have it on) or find by nearest. Worked. Thanks! Two out of three aint bad! Edited May 3, 2009 by Pi in SC Quote Link to comment

The manual that comes with the unit is terrible at best. Quote Link to comment
