http://www.geocaching.com/ vs https://geocaching.com (?)

I am using Internet Explorer 7. For some reason I cannot access any geocaching related websites that start with http://www.geocaching.com/ I get an error message saying that “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”.

However, when I manually change the address to https://geocaching.com (i.e. adding the ‘s’ after the http, and removing the ‘www.’) I am able to get to the website that I want. The only problem is that each time I follow a link, for example to trace a travel bug or check a different cache page, I have to manually change the address bar as described above. This is annoying and time consuming.

This is only happening on the geocaching website – no other website gives me this issue. I have the same issue accessing this geocaching forum website as well.

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on how to fix this are welcome, expect for suggestions that I change web browsers.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers from Dubai.

It has been a long time since I used IE as I now use something better but it sounds like you have a security setting set to only allow secure website access. I would look at the security tab and maybe look for a setting that says something about only allow secure sites with certificates or maybe something in the exception areas.

i have seen that on many computers! It affects only some sites but not all. It's malware. Download the trial version of malware bytes anti-malware at www.malwarebytes.org, install and update it. Run the quick scan and when it's done you will probably have some infections, click the show results and then hit remove all. You might have to reboot but once you do you should be all good again.

This is the message I currenty get when logging onto the GC site.

There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

I'm not 100% sure on that one. I have seen it before but can't remember how I fixed it. If using internet explorer try tools, internet options and delete your history, offline files and temp internet files. Close explorer and reopen and try it again. Thinking maybe it's a corrupt cookie possibly but not sure.
