+Team MAKS Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I recently purchased and Garmin Etrex Venture HC and I am trying to figure out if I can show both my current coordinates and the coordinates of my 'goto' waypoint on the same screen/page. It seems like a rudimentary thing to do but I can't figure it out. Does anyone know if this is possible and how to do it? THANKS! Quote

As a first suggestion, go to the Garmin website and download the users manual for the Legend C, a discontinued model. That unit has functions very similar to the Venture HC and the users manual is much more comprehensive than the manual that came with your unit. I don't think it is possible to do what you are asking and, to be honest, I'm not sure why it would be important to have that capability - it is easy enough to scroll through the pages if the information that you are looking for is not in the current view. I don't think you can get two fixed display fields to show the two sets of coordinates, but there is a way to see the information you are after. On the Map screen, select at least one WIDE data field (location coordinates can only be displayed in WIDE data fields). Select "Location (selected)" as the data to display in one wide data field, so that it will show your current coordinates in the coordinate system of your choice. Now, move the cursor until it hovers over your destination point. You will get a 'pop-up' window showing the name of the selected map feature, the coordinates of the selected point, as well as the distance and bearing from your current location. Hope this helps! +Team MAKS Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 Thank you both for your replies. jmundinger: That old Legend C manual is a great help as the one that came with my Venture HC is terrible. julianh: I will try your suggestion also. Cheers. Quote
+StarBrand Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Also - just as a tip - trying to match up the coordinates as a method of geocaching is not a very good one. Use the compass screen after selecting a cache to goto, while you are moving even slowly - it shows the direction to the cache and a countdown of the distance to get you there - far more useful. When you are within 10 - 20 feet - put the unit away and start looking for likely hiding spots. Quote
