+Team Brantley
Hey katsgonewild, Well, there are many TBs like this. You find the car, and write down the tracking number. Then you log your visit on its personal page. The car moves and everything, and people spot and tell were its at. - Cody from Team Brantey Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
Basically when people come across the bug stuck to your car they will log a Discover on it. No Grabbing or Retrieving since they won't be taking it with them. (You hope) The dogtags are for if you decide to stop using your car as a Travel bug. You can re-release it as a standard bug that travels from cache to cache carried by other cachers. For now just throw the dogtags in a drawer. Quote Link to comment

+geo-spoutnik
I also want to have a travel bug on my car and I do have the perfect car for that... a silver VW Bug ! katsgonewild, where did you buy your travel bug stickers and how big are they? If they are not big enough, I'm considering having the logo blown up and applied by an auto Vinyl Graphics specialist. I'd like them to be about 1 foot x 2 feet and have a copy on the hood and one on the trunk. Is there a way to choose the tracking number we want? I suppose not but I had to ask just in case. +JohnE5
The vinyl sticky ones are a little smaller than a standard sheet of paper. They come with the tracking number printed on them, you can not change that. Quote Link to comment

+ErikaJean
I just ordered it (a magnetic one). I plan on using it on an upcoming road trip. I'm not going to leave it on my car in my hometown though, for safety reasons. I'll get it out when ever I go on caching trips or road trips though ;-) Quote Link to comment
+Oxygen Thief
This thread almost answered a question I was going to ask, almost... Is there a way to stop people grabbing or retrieving it? Or is it all a bit vague? How are these logged if they are never hidden? I mean I could be parked 500 miles away from the nearest geocache? How would this work? +kccj
I found one once, where the TB id was a personalized Plate. Makes you really think when you see something like this. Pretty cool. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=561717 Quote Link to comment

Because I don't know if I would catch it! Quote Link to comment

+BlueDeuce
You can't release more than one bug with the same tracking number. Additionally having a bug listing pulled between different cache listings causes a lot of confusion. But since you aren't really releasing it out to the wild and it's likely only to have Discover logs I guess it's not going to be a big issue. Try not to get things tangled up. A gc.com rep may say different. Quote Link to comment

+grateful cacher
One question I have about the vehicle travel bugs. I'm planning a trip from Oregon to Alabama next month, and have put a TB sticker on my car. I've activated it, but in the log it shows that I'm in possession of it. Do these TBs accumulate miles, and if they do, what do you use for a starting location? A GPS fix on my home? I'm new at this and am just trying to understand the subtlties of TBs. Thanks for the help. Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
Bugs accumulate mileage by being logged through caches they have visited. Unfortunately car travel bugs aren't very good at reaching a cache location. They are intended to be more of a social traveler by having people spot the tag while you are out and about and log a Discover. If you want you can get the bug out of your drop inventory by marking it as missing. All this does is move it to an Unknown Location. You can still have people log Discovers and easy to pull back out at anytime. Just go to the bug page and under Trackable Item Options is a pull down menu labeled mark as missing. Click go. +tulsagal2go
I have just purchased one of the window cling travel bugs and placed it on my rear window. I named mine GeoRav and it was spotted for the first time yesterday on the highway. The dog tags I just keep at home in a safe place. It is fun and an inexpensive way to get a start in geocaching for me. I ordered mine from Groundspeak. Enjoy your new bug! tulsagal2go Quote Link to comment
+Angie D300
Not to sound stupid, but basically, i could just put a TB sticker on my car & just let other cachers find my my car as i travel, right? Then would i just keep track of it as cachers log it, right? If so, then this could be fun...especially for cachers around my house because there is a cache site, that i can see from my house. I could always give them a little hint to my car's TB sticker...as an bonus find. Thanks for any help...kind of new to this. Angie D300 Quote Link to comment

Angie D300 If people come across your bug they would log a Discover so you'll have a list of everyone who's found it right there on the bug page. You can tell people the bug is available, just don't provide the tracking number. They'll have to get it from the sticker themselves. Quote Link to comment
Quizes
I'd like to get a bug for the front of our camper, but our trailer is white. Do they make the stickers in any color other than white? Quote Link to comment

Isn't it possible for me to do this for myself? I thought there was a process called dipping that would allow me to put my bug into a cache and then take it right back out. That way it would log the mileage between caches? How exactly does that work? Rich Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
Just like any other bug. Ya Drop it in with your Found it log and you Retrieve the bug right back out. Quote Link to comment
+BubbaC
OK - I have the INTERIOR TB window cling, and have registered it. Only problem is that the window I have it on is tinted, making it even more of a challenge for folks to find. Question - is there a way to set up a cache with dummy coordinates (in the vicinity of where I usually park) to give other cachers an idea of where to find this one, or even the knowledge that it exists? No, that would imply a virtual cache. Those are no longer approved. You could certainly permanently stick your travel bug in a normal cache but then it wouldn't be a car TB would it? Trust me on this one - Ain't hardly no one gonna log your car TB regardless of how easy it is to notice. At events or anytime you meet up with a cacher, hand them the tracking information to log your TB. Quote Link to comment
+nefesh
Has anyone used the magnetic car TB's? If so, where's the best place to put them? It seems they would be easier to steal. Quote Link to comment

I've had mine since March 29, 2007. Since the rear end of my car is plastic I place it just behind the window of the driver-side back-passenger. The only person who's going to take it is some punk vandal, but most of them were defeated at Carthage in 533. Take it in at night I you wish. I wouldn't worry about it. Quote Link to comment

Check out http://www.debbiedoesdecals.com/. She can probably make you a copy in whatever color you want. You just give her the tracking number from the one you bought.
