adding coordinates?

Not real coordinates but for example if a puzzle said to add 1888 to the coordinates 45 01.xxx how would I do that? How do you add a 4 digit number? Do I need to divide by 60?

Ignore the decimals and whatnot, just add the numbers to the existing numbers as if it were basic math.

So if it was 45 01 222 + 1000 it would be 45 01.3220?

I think what he was suggesting was 45 02.222. Although, I'd think that puzzle would need to be improved so this doesn't happen.

Yes, it can be confusing. The last thing you want in a puzzle is the possibility of more than one way of calculating the solution. Ideally, you want to supply an example of just how to do the math in the cache description.

 

That and... supply a checksum (i.e. add up all the digits of the solution coords either totally else by N and W) or provide a link to geochecker etc.

Yes, this is exactly what I was getting at. Every puzzle or multi (or even virtual) I've done that asked you to add numbers in such a manner works exactly this way.

 

41.234 add 1002 = 42.236

57.123 subtract 10440 = 46.683

 

etc.

 

Of course, if the puzzle says do something different, do something different. But if it doesn't...
