+Postie
After a trip down South to do some caching a few days ago, I was surprised by the number of caches near my friends home. I did a few PQs and came up with these figures. I have 404 caches within a 20 mile radius of my home. My friend has 500+ caches within an 8 mile radius. So is the North loosing out to the South again?? How far do you have to go to get 500 caches? Quote Link to comment
+Simply Paul
11.9 miles for me, including those I own/have done. Centre: Aylesbury, Bucks. Quote Link to comment
+Bill D (wwh)
I have 500 caches within 18.1 miles, and I'm in south Wiltshire. So I don't think you're losing out by much! Cache density varies a lot in southern England though - in some areas you don't need a gps, you just go for a walk and fall over them... Quote Link to comment
+qichina
12.3 miles for me in Essex. The circle of 500 caches seems to get smaller everytime I run the PQ. Quote Link to comment
+The Blorenges
16.2 miles for us. (From our home near Chepstow, south Wales) MrsB Quote Link to comment
spaceduk
There are 500 (non-premium member) caches within 8.71 miles from here in Fleet, Hampshire. Edited April 11, 2009 by spaceduk Quote Link to comment

+Stuey
500 caches within 21.4 miles, but 50% of the circle around my house is Lyme Bay (and there are no hydro caches out there - yet!). Quote Link to comment
+parkmoy
Are we talking ALL caches including owned and found here? Quote Link to comment
+MartyBartfast
Just under 19 km (~12 miles). Quote Link to comment
+La Fifi
24.9 from Malton, North Yorks - much better than I expected. Quote Link to comment
+hawkeye81
How far do you have to go to get 500 caches? 37.5km (23 miles) for the nearest 500 active caches, but north of me is mostly sea. Also some of those caches are in Essex - it may be just 20 miles across the water, but it's a 140+mile round trip via the Dartford Tunnel to log any of them! Quote Link to comment
GeordieLass
21.5 miles from my part of Newcastle. I'm right on the Northumberland/Tyne and Wear border but I think the vast majority of those caches are south rather then north of me. Quote Link to comment
+HazelS
13.6 miles from Wirral... I also have the problem with living on a peninsula... I'm surrounded by water on three sides that reduces the amount of space available for caches.... given that a LOT of those 500 are in Wales and Liverpoo, I can assume that the distance would be MUCH less if there wasn't so much water surrounding us!! Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
13.2 miles for 500 caches. But I've managed to knock another 3 off the list of unfound! (The closest one is just under 400ft away... I'm ignoring it! ) Quote Link to comment
Jantaculum
11.9 miles No distance really. Maybe I'm guilty of ignoring the caches nearer to home and concentrating on those further afield. Note to self - have a closer look at local caches! Quote Link to comment
+Gushoneybun
15.3 miles for us: Leek in Staffordshire. In that circle we have three counties each one in a seperate Region. Quote Link to comment
+lodgebarn
9.9 miles for me in North Derbyshire and shrinking fast! Quote Link to comment
+Primitive Person
My nearest 500 are all within 7.8 miles, centred around Raynes Park (near Wimbledon), London. So...that just about gets to the edge of central London. It's pretty dense around here - although I've been caching all over the place, the vast majority of my 210 or so finds are within about 4 or 5 miles of home. I run about four PQs for different cache types centred around home, which gives me everything within about 20 or so miles, so covering almost all of London and a sizable chunk of the area to the south and west. My nearest unfound cache is now 2.1 miles away, but it's a puzzle I've got no idea how to tackle, so I suspect it'll go unsolved for a while. Lee Quote Link to comment
+Mad H@ter
12.1 miles for us in Oxford but would have been a bit less had we not archived most of ours recently. Also did a quick check on how many left to find, just 31 . From our new address in Bristol (if we ever get there ) it will be 12 miles which is a lot better than I thought it was , and 455 left to find, can see that we shall be very busy. +Maple Leaf
15.6miles for me (near Cheddar, Somerset) .... although some of those are across the Bristol channel (in Cardiff) so would actually take me over an hour to drive there (and pay the toll fee!). Interestingly, the 500th cache from home is still waiting for a FTF (a month on) ... but I think it may be a while yet as it is Captain Gore-tex's latest curio (Bristol Curios #25) which is a 5/5 Quote Link to comment
+LinseyG
13.3 Miles including finds, 16.6 not including. Also have the Curios in that - hopefully hitting some of them today :-) Quote Link to comment
+Bambography
Thought I was going to come in with a record, but Primitive Person just pipped me. Mine are all within 14.1Km (8.7miles). Reduced considerably in the last couple of months by the publication of the 2 UK Mega series. Quote Link to comment

From my parnets postcode in West Yorkshire I have 500 caches within 11.1miles. I have noticed there are far more active geocachers around Surrey then Yorkshire, so you need to encourage more friends and family up north to take up the hobby and hence you will soon have many more caches to find. thurs night gang
for me in walsall , 500 caches can be found in 10.3 miles, recently we have had a lot of caches set up along canals which we do have a lot of around here. Quote Link to comment
+SidAndBob
21 miles on the England / South Wales border. Take Bristol out of the equation (we never cache there) and it's much further. We had a cache published 10 miles from home last week. I can't remember the last time that happened. Quality is far more important than quantity anyway. Quote Link to comment
+Travers
There are 500 caches within 20 miles / 32km of us. When I filter out those we've found or own, it's 45 miles / 72km. It doesn't mean we want to visit them all though - there are plenty close by that we're not really interested in. Quote Link to comment
+janw7256
From my current location in North Liverpool I have 500+ within 15.2 miles - The Irish Sea is a bit of a cache desert though From my (other) home in Brough, Cumbria, there are 500+ within 20.2 miles, there have been a lot of new caches hidden in the Yorkshire Dales recently which helps. Beefy4605
50 miles from my front door I have 493 caches . As I live on the North Coast of Northern Ireland some of these are in Scotland and the Irish Sea (North Channell) gets in the way a bit. In the Island of Ireland I've got about 2800 caches to keep me busy for a day or to yet . Quote Link to comment

+Write and Mane
Are we the only ones who work in Kilometres? Distance 32.4k for 500 caches, but lots of those are across the water in England. We own a few caches although we have had to archive 7 which required people to take a photo. Quote Link to comment
+goldpot
Are we the only ones who work in Kilometres? ...what are they? Is it that 19th century measurement which was made by scientists who could only count by using their fingers? Quote Link to comment

+MartyBartfast
How do I find out? Go to the search page, and search on your postcode, this will produce a list of 500 caches, so go to the last page in the search and look at the distance for the last cache on that page (number 500). +Orchards Finest
500 caches found, unfound and owned within 14.7km (for the 'oldies' out there 9.1 miles ) and the 180 degrees south of me is the English Channel! I used to have one scheduled PQ which covered my 'not found' caches within 50km of home. Now I need three just to to cover 45km from home. Two years ago we were looking at travelling for thirty minutes to find a cache, now we are able to routinely ignore those which don't appeal. Swings and roundabouts... Quick edit: we are off to Prague in June (not geocaching related but we will no doubt succumb) and there are 500 caches within 5.6km (3.5 miles!!!!! of our hotel) Edited April 14, 2009 by Orchards Finest Quote Link to comment
