+Bear and Ragged
Excuse me if its a stupid question. What does Sca Fell Pub Pil S1537 G mean? It's a stupid question, but I'm in the know! For those not in the know, it's not a stupid question! It's the Triangulation Piller on Sca Fell. The numbers (S1537) are the numbers used by Ordnace Survey to identify that particular trig. Linky for more information. UK cachers (and trigpointers!) can be found over in the UK side of Groundspeak forums HERE Or trig pointers and trig point discussions can be found over on the GAGB forums here Edited April 10, 2009 by Bear and Ragged Quote Link to comment
+Prime Suspect
It makes a little more sense if you know that, in the UK, "fell" means a moor or a highland plateau. Quote Link to comment
AlunS
It makes a little more sense if you know that, in the UK, "fell" means a moor or a highland plateau. True, but it's really confined to Northern England though. It's an anglicization of the Scandinavian word fjäll which means mountain. There are many other examples of Scandinavian words appearing in the names of features, or village names in that part of the world. It's all the Vikings' fault, you see Quote Link to comment
