+bshwckr
Just scored a new HTC Touch Pro for work so I thought I would load up some caching hardware and give it a go. Not so good. Seems that the GPS is crippled by static navigation which makes small movements not register. I shot off an email to the maker and to their credit I received quite a prompt response. Not the answer I was after though. See the response below. If anyone has managed to get around this issue, I would appreciate the knowledge. Cheers bshwckr Thank you for contacting HTC Service Support. Regarding your inquiry, I have checked with our senior engineer and he said that currently the static navigation cannot be turned off or modified and there is also no patch available for us to modify this. The GPS for HTC handsets are designed to use static settings. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again, and refer to this ticket # ******. Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Quote Link to comment
+EnigmaticSoul
Hello, Just wanted to bump this topic because I'm in exactly the same position as bshwckr. Using the GPS while moving at slow speeds is very difficult. If anyone has any other solutions, I would be much obliged. Cheers, EnigmaticSoul Quote Link to comment
+kallt_kaffe
I've googled about geocaching with a HTC TyTN II (my brother has such a phone and wanted to try geocaching) some weeks ago and there is a regisitry value that can be changed which controls this behaviour. In fact I had the exact same problem with my first GPS, a windows CE based Packard Bell Compasseo which was useless for geocaching for this reason even though it had a Sirfstar III chip. You should be able to find it if you google for TyTN II and geocaching. (and I'm pretty sure I read that the Touch Pro had the same issue so there is hope) Edited July 9, 2009 by kallt_kaffe Quote Link to comment
segler999
One other solution is to use a BT gps receiver with the Touch PRO. A great example is the Holux M1000 with the very sensitive MTK chip, and it definitely has the static nav turned off by default. However, can somebody confirm that the Touch PRO will make a BT SPP connection to a gps receiver? Many phones do not, but the wm phones perhaps do. Quote Link to comment
