+JestersCap
Hello! I've just started geocaching a few weeks ago. Yesterday I found three traditional caches with descriptions telling me that there are one or more TB or GC in it. When I found the caches there were no TB/GC in it. Anyway there was no log entry on that day or the day before that could tell me that the TB/GC were taken out. Is it usual/common, that some geocachers doesn't log, when they took items - in particular TB/GC - out? I thought, that this is one of the most important parts of the game and also a question of honor. I'm frustrated! Please help my new hobby to survive! Best regards, JestersCap Quote Link to comment

+StarBrand
Some cachers never log any finds or moves online - I know on my own caches, I usually find about 20% more names in the physical logbook then I do online. Still others forget to log TBs. Others do not understand them and move them without thinking. Sadly a very few are actually stolen with no intention of moving or logging. Sometimes it takes as long as a few weeks for a cacher to return from a trip. Most common of all however, is that the trackable has actually been missing for months or years and is still on the cache inventory. Edited April 6, 2009 by StarBrand Quote Link to comment
+Printess Caroline
It happens... Unfortunately, more often than most of us would like, especially those who own travelers. I hope that this won't ruin the fun for you too much. After all, it is only part of the enjoyment of geocaching. Just do your best to be a good escort to any travelers that you pick up and have fun! +mfamilee
It also helps everyone out to note in your online log if a GC or TB is missing from a cache. Quote Link to comment

Best regards, JestersCap It is frustrating, sometimes they are just not logged. I will go out of my way, and at times go back to a cache for an interesting coin, or if going away a TB, I've recently collected a few for my impending trip and have found a few caches without the TB/Coins in them. I believe it is up to the cache owner or the TB/Coin owner to ammend the log, however this can take a while. I will always make a note in the log if the TB/Coin is not in there, to avoid disappointment for someone searching for it after me. Quote Link to comment
+DaysJourney
I was just noticing the same thing! I've been caching for a few weeks now, so I'm really new to this. I am planning a trip to SoCal at the end of the month, and I've been searching for at least one TB to take with me. Last several caches, the TB's were missing. I saw that someone had added a TB to a cache near my house that I'd already been to - so I went back and grabbed it. Now I'm not sure how to log that I went back. I can't put "found it", since it was my second visit to that cache. Should I just "add a note" and explain that I went back for the TB? Quote Link to comment

Yes, an Add Note is the perfect way to state that you went to the cache to grab the TB to move along. Welcome to the game! Quote Link to comment
pony92
geocoins are confusing to me. are you supposed to keep them or not? because some of the geobags in that thread have like "the first geocoin I've found" or "geocoins I've found" in/on them, but I've heard you're NOT supposed to keep them and are supposed move them along to other caches, but then I've heard some people collect them.... can someone help me? Hi there. Basically IF it has a tracking number on the coin or a TB tag attached, keep it moving, after logging the find. IF it has no tracking number, it is your option to keep or trade as swag. There are many cases where people permanently collect the trackable ones incorrectly. Of course some people do that with TB's as well. NOT GOOD! Doug Quote Link to comment

Coins that you buy or barter from the coin owner, are yours to keep and collect, if you wish. Many people finance the production of coins by pre-selling a portion of them to the public. +DatCrazyMongoose
I adopted 2 caches recently which showed that they had multiple trackables in them. I went to the cache page and clicked on the items in the inventory list. I then selected "Mark as missing" and clicked "Go". Voila! The item was no longer in my cache inventory. This option is only available to cache owners, though, so it's important to let the CO know so they can keep their cache current. Quote Link to comment
