Seven Mile Beach - Tasmania

We belong to Worldmark timeshares. A couple years ago we spent a few days in Sydney and then two weeks up in Cairns. There is a resort at Seven Mile Beach (near Hobart) in Tasmania that we are thinking of visiting. It's a long trip coming from the desert of Nevada, USA. The time frame we are thinking of is late February - early March. Is this a good time to visit the area? This would be strictly a tourist/geocaching holiday. Would ten days be OK? Too short? Too long?

Hi from the JABs, Not from Tassie but have been there for a short trip and loved the place, the people, the caches even the tourist places we visited we found to be great. We are planning a second trip down there as it was such a wounderfull place.

The March average for Min Temp is 10°C with a Max average of 20°C whick is a very pleasant time of year. If you wish to find out more please visit these forums http://forum.geocaching.com.au/index.php where there is a section for international visitors can post, you will find most Ozzies hang out in that forum and will get a bigger reply from there.

Good luck and if you are planning your trip for next year 2010 be aware that Australia is planning its first Mega event Over the Easter break (early April), this will be held in Wagga Wagga NSW. See this topic - http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...207953&st=0

Not long enough...Tasmania is absolutely Beautiful...and while you are there be SURE to visit Salamanca Market at Salamanca Place in Hobart, it is held all day Saturday, every saturday, but I would get there nice and early! There is SO much to see in Tasmania, if you can go for longer, then do it! you WONT be disappointed. I grew up there BTW!

The Salamanca Market is on our list. That will be Saturday, February 27th. I picked up the Lonely Planet book for Tasmania. Haven't opened it yet. Still have a a couple other trips to do before next February. Just in the next couple months we taking a trip to Holland, a cruise to Mexico and attending Burning Man.

We visited Tasmania with our auzzie friends about that same time of year and it was beautiful. Do not miss Wineglass Bay or the Ghost tour of Port Arthur prison. The bay is spectacular and the ghost tour was great fun. This is a pristine unspolied island that we plan to visit again.

Thanks for the recommendation. Just did a quick read on Wineglass Bay. Definitely now on our list. We were planning to bring the hiking boots and daypacks so this might be a good place to use them. Between the drive to/from Seven Mile plus the hike - this might be a long day.

Question on terminology - when a description of a hike says "2 - 3 hours return". Is that the same as us Americans saying 2 -3 hours round trip?
