+northernpenguin
Works like a charm now that I moved it out of a subdirectors ONTTRAILS of ONTTRAILS I actually develop the project on a 32 bit Windows 7 computer. It has also been tested on Windows 7 64-bit. You may want to try installing it from an elevated command prompt because we do write to the Registry That's great, glad you're all sorted out. As of today, the Trails Project is being developed on a Macbook Pro now I will be virtualizing Windows machines with Fusion so that will continue to be supported but the Mac users are going to get some better support going forward. +northernpenguin
Here's a new trick for the project - you can use it with BaseCamp for Mac OS! Make sure you have BaseCamp installed, then download the .gmapi file from the site and double click on it. The map will be added to BaseCamp. You will still have to use MapInstall to get it on your GPS though. Quote Link to comment

+KDotBlueDot
Wicked! It's like a surprise gift every time it comes out. Can't live without these. (I could, but really, who'd want to ??) Thanks a bunch! And thanks to everyone who takes the time to send in their tracks. Quote Link to comment
+entogeek
Very excited about the new canoe route feature especially with the portages. Based on my past experience, I've been known to spend more time looking for the portage than I spend actually paddling! Quote Link to comment

+Keith Watson
I noticed in the Google Earth file most of the icons are just a black dot except for bridges and boats. Will the other be making a return? Quote Link to comment
+northernpenguin
I noticed in the Google Earth file most of the icons are just a black dot except for bridges and boats. Will the other be making a return? Yeah, I'm not too happy about that either. That was a compromise I took while waiting for a software fix - the black dots were better than the big red boxes with an X through them. Once the software I'm using to convert Polish Format to KML starts supporting Garmin custom icons, those icons will be back. They've promised it in an update "soon". Quote Link to comment
+northernpenguin
Gearing up for another update this week! I've got a ton of portages and canoe routes on the west side of Algonquin Park ... the first of two batches of trails. Hoping I'll get to "Gold Master" by Wednesday and push the update out by Thursday or Friday at the latest. Now's the time to send in tracklogs if you want them included in the July release, and as I've got a few big trips coming up, the next release will likely be September. Quote Link to comment

Ok, I was a few days late on this one. Got caught up fiddling with the Saugeen River Canoe Route and some Algonquin portages. Today I decided it's time to stop and ship the current version as I know a few people are heading into Algonquin shortly. Go get the update (v0.79) which has lots of new goodies! I've added some info bits and I'm marking where the dams are along canoe routes, to give you a bit of warning that next portage isn't optional Quote Link to comment

+frinklabs
The data set is now up to version 0.82 In a perfect world, there'd be a way to get this into an iPhone, overlaid onto the Canadian Topo maps...? The NRC topo maps are easily used within the excellent Geocaching Map Enhancement script; isn't there a way to get them into an iPhone? Quote Link to comment
+northernpenguin
The data set is now up to version 0.82 In a perfect world, there'd be a way to get this into an iPhone, overlaid onto the Canadian Topo maps...? The NRC topo maps are easily used within the excellent Geocaching Map Enhancement script; isn't there a way to get them into an iPhone? Short answer, it's on my wish list to get the Project on an iPhone as well. I've made a few efforts and not really had a chance to put 100% into that. Right now, I pull together the dataset and I don't worry too much about writing a bunch of interfaces for it. As I own an iPhone, that would be the first smartphone I target if any. The process for displaying this data on a phone is somewhat different from preparing it for a Garmin device, though there are apps for iPhone and Android that can display Garmin IMG and GPX data. +frinklabs
Firstly, Happy Canada Day! Meanwhile, I was looking at Gaia GPS - Offline Topo Maps and GPS Tracker They allege to be able to pre-download the NRC maps into your iPhone for offline use. If the Ontario Trail Map data could be added as another layer on top of those, Bob's your uncle. I don't want to drop $20USD to find out it doesn't work though... Any volunteers?
