MrPloppy Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Yeah, it's a n00b question, but when people leave things in a cache, like a toy car, or an eyeball (yes, there was one), what's the etiquette for taking these? They have no tracking number on them, so how to their owners find out where they are? MrP. Quote
+Wintonian Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 If there is no tracking numberthen it is probobly swg that you can take with you. Although I did once find a stone with a note saying that it wanted to go to Worth Matravers in Dorset which I helped on its way, as it wasn't 'official' there wasn't any need and realy all items with a goal should have prpoer tag otherwise they are technicaly swag? - I think?. +BlueDeuce Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 (edited) Yep, just trade items. trade even or trade up. Edit: Good question though. Thanks for asking. Edited March 21, 2009 by BlueDeuce Quote
+Wintonian Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Whoops, Yes tade item - not for the taking without leaving something. Quote
+Max and 99 Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Any little trinkets you find in a cache are for trading (yes, even eyeballs!). It's part of the fun to find a cool item in a cache and leave something else. I try to stock my large caches with kid-friendly toys from the party store or with toys my kids no longer play with. Have fun trading. Quote
+ITCHYthirdEYE Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 My kids are grown up now and I'm new to this and find myself buying trades, when I think how much I've chucked out over the years Quote
MrPloppy Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Thanks all for that - that explains it then! I suppose it's a good way of getting rid of stuff. Now to create a cache big enough to get rid of those broken fence panels down the side of my house! Quote
+Wintonian Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Good luck on finding somewhere to place it. Quote
+MooToo Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 We have come across a troll with a cacher profile and an email address atached acting as its own type of tb,we duly moved it on and emailed and got a pleasant email as a poem back, it was fun ,other than that its usually swopsies...... +Water-Rats Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 We came across a 'geocard' an un-official sort of trackable. It was a laminated card with a picture of a Jack Russell on it who liked to go to woods and footpaths so we took him from Derbyshire to Staffordshire and left him in a cache on a popular dog walk. We emailed the owners on the address provided when we found and left. Just lately we are swapping mainly for 'english' items i.e. letter box keyring, Mini car keyring etc etc. As we are off to visit our mates in Darwin, Australia in September so thought that we'd take some really English trades with us. We've bought some already and swapped some super things too. We do try to leave some fun items and always trade even or up. The eyeball sounds rather fun though Quote
Toyahmunky Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I like to only take out badges (which I then pin to my handbag) and swap with other odds and ends. Quote
+Handsyhands Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I brought a pile of Gold Pirates Doubloons - fake of course! - there is a set of four to collect, the smaller ones fitted into Micros but the full doubloon was the size of a geocoin. Not sure if anyone ever collected a whole set but it's something I will continue doing .... Yarr! Quote
+SidAndBob Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Thanks all for that - that explains it then! I suppose it's a good way of getting rid of stuff. Now to create a cache big enough to get rid of those broken fence panels down the side of my house! I know you're only joking, but trades should never be broken items or junk. I always say "Leave only trades you would want to find", otherwise you are just leaving rubbish for someone else to have to throw out. Quote
The Red Kite Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I'm thinking of placing a skip as a cache, and putting in it all the items I have bought over the last couple of years for placing new caches and trading as swag. So many of my caches have been muggled I am losing interest in swag and swaps now, and lining some thieving toads' pockets Quote
