Replacing City Navigator

Recommended Posts

I've just purchased City Navigator NT 2009 to replace a 2006 version. I have a Legend Cx with the 2006 maps loaded onto an SD card. I'm not the brightest bulb when it comes to updating things like this. So, I'm wondering if I have to do anything to delete the 2006 maps from the SD card before loading the 2009 maps. If so, how?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Need more information. Is the SD card one of those that came from Garmin with preloaded maps on it?

Or is it one that you loaded maps onto with Mapsource?

If it's one that you loaded maps onto with Mapsource and you want to use Mapsource to load the new ones, just go ahead and do it. Mapsource is smart enough to just overwrite the old map file on the SD card.

One caveat to the latter strategy - if City Navigator is the only map set on your SD card, then go for it. If you also have Topo or some other maps on there, you'll lose them. Garmin overwrites all your maps when you update/add to any of them. You have to select every map segment you want on your handheld every time you upload to GPS if you want them to be there after you upload.
