cincol
The Stacy's, who found their first cache on 28 January 2012, was the 8000th cacher to find a cache in South Africa. During the last year 2153 cachers found their first cache in South Africa. (5.9 new cachers/day) Wow - 2153 new cachers! That is good news for the game. Any way of knowing how many "inactive" cachers there are in SA? Link to comment
Danie Viljoen
Any way of knowing how many "inactive" cachers there are in SA? It depends what your definition of inactive is. Of the 8013 cachers who have found at least one cache in South Africa since the beginning, 4585 have not found anything during the last year (57%). Personally I like to define an active cacher as one who finds at least one cache/month on average. With this definition there are now 1108 active cachers, which means 86% of the total are inactive. Some of these are one-time tourists, but it is unfortunately not possible to filter them out. Link to comment
TechnoNut
Any way of knowing how many "inactive" cachers there are in SA? It depends what your definition of inactive is. What if we defined "active" as having found at least one cache in the last three (or six) months? What would the number of active cachers be then? For three and six months? PT Link to comment
Danie Viljoen
What would the number of active cachers be then? For three and six months? During the last 3 months, 1592 cachers have found at least one cache in South Africa. For the last 6 months, the number is 2340. For the last year, the number is 3428. Link to comment

cincol
Would the "found" vs "DNF" not make more sense when shown as a ratio to finds? My thinking is the "older" caches with many finds will also feature with the more DNF's but I could be wrong. This could also be something like the favourite points as well. The DNF does not necessarily mean a gauge of difficulty. A case in point is my "Mankwe Dam Nano" in the Pilanesberg. Two issues come up here - many caches log a DNF because the hide is full of muggles and they cannot search for it. It has on occasion gone MIA and caches attempt to find it whilst disabled as many are tourists who may have downloaded the data prior to the cache being disabled. Thanks for the stats - I love them. I would have calculated the DNF percentage for the above cache as 10/16 = 62.5%. i.e. of 16 attempts, 10 were DNF. And the 2nd on your list as 8/13 = 61.5%. PT Link to comment
Danie Viljoen
Why have you calculated the DNF % the way you have? Ratio or fraction makes no difference - doing it your way leads to exactly the same list with the same sequence. (All the numbers are in my message, if you want to convert them!) Link to comment
Danie Viljoen
During the last year 2342 new cachers have found their first cache in South Africa. That is an average of 6.4 new cachers per day! During the last year a total of 3674 cachers have logged at least one find in South Africa. This means that 64% of all the cachers who have logged a find during the last year have been caching for less than a year. Since the beginning 8570 cachers have logged at least one find on a South African cache. Edited April 14, 2012 by Danie Viljoen Link to comment

Danie Viljoen
Here is one I would like to see, which cachers have the most finds out of their own province, is that possible. Not really possible - a cacher's origin is not part of the available data. I guess one can assume that most finds will be in a cacher's home province, but this will not always work, like when a cacher has relocated from one province to another. Link to comment
Bremar Josrut
Most active cachers during the year ending 10 April 2012, per province: Eastern Cape: 1. Cacher-SA: 147 finds 2. Bremar Josrut: 128 finds 3. Kingrobert: 116 finds 4. louwtjievdw: 115 finds 5. besem: 113 finds It's wonderful to see that I'm second most active cacher in the Eastern Cape. However what I want to find out is when does these numbers start from. I found my first cache on 04/07/2011 and have not looked back and I have found 41 so far this year. So does this make me the most active cacher? I would not think so. Link to comment

It is for the year 11 April 2011 to 10 April 2012. According to my records you have found a total of 129 African caches in this period, of which all but one were in the Eastern Cape. Unless my numbers are wrong, you have indeed been the second most successful cache finder in the Eastern Cape during this period. Link to comment
