+Carbon Hunter
I noticed that if we had to do the favourite caches for the entire Africa that it would bump a good few SA caches off the top honours list (as of 24 April 2013). +Carbon Hunter
Some interesting statistics for Earthcaches globally. SA actually looks quite good on this chart. Global Earthcaches So some incentive for us to increase numbers. Link to comment
+Carbon Hunter
Another cool EC stat - 141 of 171 ECs in SA have at least one Favourite Point (i.e. almost 83% of ECs are worthy of someone's favourite). I think this may be the highest percentage of cache type? Link to comment
+Carbon Hunter
Here is an update on SA Favourite Points. +Kasimani
Thanks for the Stats, very interesting! Just to make it more confusing/complete, I know of a cache called "Tygerberg cache" GC8B5D, the first log I can see (I cannot see the reviewers note or FTF log) is dated the 15-09-2002 but the top of the page says hidden on the 28-07-2012. Whatever IT bug caused havoc, strictly spoken it should be included in the (Western Cape) list as an old active cache. Link to comment
+Danie Viljoen
I know of a cache called "Tygerberg cache" GC8B5D, the first log I can see (I cannot see the reviewers note or FTF log) is dated the 15-09-2002 but the top of the page says hidden on the 28-07-2012. Whatever IT bug caused havoc, strictly spoken it should be included in the (Western Cape) list as an old active cache. From the logs it looks as if this cache was muggled and then got replaced in a new place. I think the reviewer probably regarded this as a new cache. It is just strange that the old name and code remained. Another one that bothers me is no. 14 on the list, GC2AC1 - JOHANNESBURG SOUTH-1C, originally hidden on 2001/11/15. It was gone for more than a year (but not archived) and then replaced more than 800m from its original location. To me it does not feel like an original "old" cache. Then there is no. 82, GCGX5X - Serendipity, originally hidden on 2003/09/14. It was gone for more than 3 years, then replaced more than 7 km away, but it still kept the original name and date! +Danie Viljoen
Find rate over the past year: During the period 19 June 2012 to 18 June 2013: Whole of Africa: 318708 finds on 11880 caches by 20387 cachers, for an average of 26.8 finds/cache, 15.6 finds/cacher and 873 finds/day Africa excluding Madeira and the Canary Islands: 153799 finds on 9752 caches by 10152 cachers, for an average of 15.8 finds/cache, 15.1 finds/cacher and 421 finds/day South Africa: 133778 finds on 8472 caches by 4854 cachers, for an average of 15.8 finds/cache, 27.6 finds/cacher and 367 finds/day It is interesting that Madeira and the Canary Islands, with less than 2000 caches between them, have more cachers and finds than the rest of Africa, including South Africa! The distribution per day of the week for South Africa is: Su 33171 finds 24.8% Mo 12783 finds 9.6% Tu 10783 finds 8.1% We 14907 finds 11.1% Th 13091 finds 9.8% Fr 14273 finds 10.7% Sa 34770 finds 26.0% So, if you like to meet other cachers, go caching on a Saturday. +Danie Viljoen
I want to calculate the centroid of finds in an area, weighted by the number of times each cache has been found in a specified period. In other words, if a specific cache has been found 10 times, its weight should be 10 times that of a cache which has only been found once in the same period. Is there anybody out there that can help me with a SQLite script or GSAK macro to do this? Link to comment
