It looks like the product key for Microsoft Windows :)

Yes, but 123 45.678 creates a little wrinkle...

Now 12.34567 is a different story.

It's a pretty interesting puzzle, but is beyond my meager skills. Now I have another part of the hobby to learn about. Thanks!!! :)

I need the geocache GCXXXX number before I can help , I think it's some kind of substitution for word using some sort of base key . Like old time or civil war type of encryption scheme . I've seen before but I don't know were. What I know it's not , is a machine language type puzzle . Mikey 1959

Hai,

Just now I read your question and I think I can help you.

Last year I found the solution at: http://math.ucsd.edu/crypto/java/EARLYCIPHERS/Vigenere.html

When I am not to late, it can help you.

This link should get you pointed in the right direction http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substitution_cipher

You'll have to Google a little to find the right type though . Mikey 1959

how do i know what type it is?

As Starbrand said, "Sorry but it is generally considered bad form to ask for help with puzzles here in the forums." You've already been given way more help than most that come here looking for help with puzzles. Go to the cache owner if you need help. Most of them are more than willing to help out (besides, he already knows that you're asking!)
