+mishsteveous Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Does anyone within an hour or two of Toronto know of any good night caches? Our second ever cache was in Kamloops, BC and was a night cache...it was amazing. It was in a forest, moose and bear country and we had the best time with a group of 7 of us (even stumbled across a moose carcass..freaky!!) ...we would like to do some here in Ontario....we travel a lot in the summer so any would be great to know about...thanks Quote

BFL Boot Camp caches Ummm, methinks you mean northwest of Toronto. Was all excited about a bunch of night caches near me as I live in Pickering, but hey, I'll just have to check these out anyways. In the meantime here a two northeast of Toronto: Seaton Night Hike - GC1M87Q As Long as the Grass Shall Grow - GC1HGQA Quote
+brenda&&rew Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 There is a really good one just north of Ingersoll which is about 1 hour and 30 minutes west of Toronto... right down the 401 to the Woodstock area. The night cache is in the Oxford Woods... no bears (that we know of yet ) but there are coyotes, racoons, deer, 'possum that you may come across. Then there are those dangerous sleeping birds in the bushes that scare the *~## out you when you wake them... just ask my 17 yr old daughter It is called Yggdrasil GCP7ZY Quote

WHOOPS Yes I meant northwest there..... Also, we're planning the next batch of BFL Caches coming October 3 BFL Boot Camp IV Quote
+Dr. House Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Also, we're planning the next batch of BFL Caches coming October 3 BFL Boot Camp IV Amen... wondered when this was scheduled to happen this year. Such a fun event. Quote
+Tequila Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 You could spend a week of nights doing all the BFL caches. They are some of the best caches out there. Lots of creativity went into the series each year. Quote
+Juicepig Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Tomtec put out 2 really amazing ones a while back - He has put out a few over the years: The Eyes Have It! The Hills have Eyes II! Warning - not for the faint of heart.. Quote

But there won't be any sleet, snow, ice storm, or freezing winds by then!!!! It just won't be the same!! I'm sure the CREW from Waterloo will be there! Quote
+M3J Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 The Hills have Eyes II! ...one of my favorites (and was my first!). Very nice trail at night. Quote
+mishsteveous Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Wow, thanks for all of the good recommendations...we will be checking them all out. We are new at geocaching and are addicted already but by far we loved that night one out west so we are really looking forward to trying these...thanks!!! Quote
+ace862 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Kingston is probably a little out of your range but I thought I'd point them out anyway. We have a series of 3 here called the Night Brights. I had a blast doing them. Gold Night Brights (GC1625V) Red Night Brights (GC1624Y) White Night Brights (GC15VMA) They are disabled right now because of winter but they should be back up soon. Cheers! +BCandMsKitty Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Chatham is likely out of your range, but if you happen to be this way at night I have one Night Owl GC1HPFJ It is a pretty basic, and not as long as I would like, but I am limited by the woods we have around here. Not much activity on it, but that is what our area is like. Quote
+Bullfrog Eh-Team Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 (edited) Once you leave your dwelling, most geocaches in the 'Geocaching Capital of Canada' are 'night caches'. You cannot even see the 'Trawna glow' in our dark skies. But then again, you'd have to motor well over 2 hours from Trawna to get the to WGS. Edited: - Having now quickly reviewed the concept of the BFLs. I would suggest that the Algonquin or WGS area be avoided for this form of night caching. BFLs would seriously interfere with most 2-legged and 4-legged residents of our natural surroundings at night. We actively promote the concept of 'Dark Skies'. +RCA777 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 ....words cannot describe the fun we had trundling around the forest at midnight in an area with no cell signals.... LAARU BRAVO (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC11XNF) GC11NXF Quote
+adamsloco Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Last night I did Night Caching by the Bay. It is about 110 km north of Toronto, near Midland, Ontario. I enjoyed it, even though the snow there beside Georgian Bay was still quite deep. Adamsloco Quote
+mishsteveous Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Thanks for the other caching recommendations, nothing is really to far. We try to get as far from Toronto as we can in the summer with lots of camping so these are all good, thank you...tried one near Milton on Friday, great but we did not find cache...will be going back!
