+msrubble
How about making it possible on the printable cache page to zoom out or in on the map? The default level is not always helpful. The option of a smaller map was a nice idea, but all it does is squish the big map and make it unreadable. Link to comment

+KJcachers
I use to use the PDF format for printing but tonight I ran through some virtuals and earthcaches and printed them out in the new format and like it just fine. The only problem I had was if you tried to print with the map open at the bottom you lost all the title information on the top. Just a big blank area. Once I clicked on the arrow to close the map then the topic info came back. It didn't matter if it was a 1 or 10 page cache. I am going to assume this is a bug that can be fixed by Groundspeak if they take notice of it. (hint, hint, wink, wink). I also noticed when using the DeLorme plugin from a Pocket Query Preview to send caches directly to my PN-40 that some had a hard time and would pop up and tell me I needed to download the plugin. I would have to close that window and try again. Most of the troubled caches finally worked after several attempts but a couple I had to actually go into the cache page and send to GPS from there. Isn't new technology fun! Link to comment
+HuskerMagna
5552: Discontinue PDF print function Removed the PDF print function from cache page For those of us who still print the descriptions out, I wish that we could have saved this option. The pdf could be saved as a file and opened later or printed out. Now what am I to do? Do a search for a free PrintToPDF utility. It installs and acts like a printer. When you go to print just change from your default normal printer to the PDF option and it will create a PDF file and save it in the location you choose. It won't give you the same format as the ready made one from the site but may be an alternative for you. I guess this is what I will be doing as I was using the PDF file from the site also. P.S. I'm at work so I can't access the utility I use to get the exact name but if I leave it open when I print I can use it to print multiple files into one PDF. Not sure yet if this will be handy for caching or better to have each in it's own file. Now that I'm home and have had time to check this out my utility, PDF Redirect, won't capture the file correctly either. Everything above Short Description is not there. No GC number, no title, no coordinates. Guess I'll have to rethink this one again. No PDF file for me now either. [] Link to comment

My wife was on the site under her account last night and logged a cache find but it shows she was last on the site on 2/8 instead of 2/12. I read a rumor somewhere that if you login via the front page, it doesn't update your last visit, but if you login via the login page it does update it. But I haven't confirmed this. Hopefully Groundspeak has this on their list and can fix it in the next release. Link to comment
+fsafranek
Unable to send to my Garmin Venture HC anymore. Installed the plug-in, it recognised the device. This feature worked like a charm until this update. This is a huge negative. And honestly, one of the reasons I bought the Garmin. After the inability to "Send to GPS" I really miss the PDF option. Please bring it back. But if you can't then how about adding the option of resizing the map on printouts to "None". It's forcing a second page to print out with no real useful data. Can't complete the "Select GPS" on account page. I can choose Make and Model but I can not click on Submit or Cancel. Have to close the entire window to get out of it. Otherwise, keep up the good work. Edited February 14, 2009 by fsafranek Link to comment
+The Hawks
The new print version is nothing but crap, the old one was way better. Just look at the links in this listing (some HTML seems to be stripped), the map is not zoomable anymore, and so on. I never used the PDF function, but I understand that so many users want it back. And a rollback for the HTML print version would be great, because this is a real "downgrade"! -nik Link to comment

+HouseofStone
I'm going to put my voice in there for those requesting the return of the PDF format. Not because we print them, we have been saving the info pages to a folder on my laptop and taking it with us - PAPERLESS. I really appreciated that ability as we hate to lug around all that paper and sift through it. If the PDF format is not returned, could it at least be replaced with something like it? Some sort of simple file that will give us the hints and logs and crypted hints all in one place? It's truly been a lifesaver. We are new, so perhaps we are not using our Garmin 60CSx to the best of our ability - but that pdf ability was SUCH a help to us. Please bring it or something like it back? Link to comment

+benttrikerider
That's quite an update! I'm looking for some kind of work-around for some functionality that was removed with the map update. I usually copy the map to paper to take with me. I had to use the map on the printer-friendly page because I can't select just the map on the regular cache page, although I could Zoom in & out. Now, although I can still select the map on the printer-friendly page, I can no longer zoom in& out. Any suggestions? Thanks Link to comment

+fsafranek
It's not a GPS issue. It's a plug-in / browser issue. Definitely a browser issue. No joy with IE6 (I know, living in the past). But then realised I also had Firefox 2 on this PC so tried it and the Send to GPS window came up with all the normal buttons, and successfully sent the data to the GPSr. However, they are being sent to the GPSr as Waypoints and not Geocahces. Or at least the GPSr is now handling them as such and is now putting the in the waypoint list and not the Geocache list (didn't previously). If there is a switch in the data string that is assembled on the server for sending to the GPSr please check it and flip the switch. I was also able to successfully input the My GPS info for my profile using Firefox. Now if only the "Send to PDF" buttons had miraculously reappeared. But I'm much happier now than yesterday. But if I "View my Profile" or "View Public Profile", two of the images do not display and all of the tag lines say "Let's go Geocaching" even though they have customized tag lines. What gives? That is rather interesting. +smerrall
After this release I was unable to connect to the site for over 2 days. Due to time zone differences I put this down to the maintenance window in the US. I finally decided that there must be some other problem that had yet to be mentioned. +clem_1
Sirs, Still continue to see a couple of problems. First is the select GPS tabs.....I think it is a well known issue. Secondly is an isse which is driving me crazy. When I send from a cache page it says I need to load the current plug-ins. I have loaded it about a dozen times now and it still wont come up. +Harwell5
I still haven't gotten an explanation on why the "onclick" feature of the <div> tag is not working properly. As stated in my last post, I deleted all profile info, saved it with nothing, closed the browser, re-opened it, re-loaded the same content, saved it and still the same problem. My tab feature is similar to what we have already for "Profile / Geocaches / Trackables / etc." but yet my tabs are not working. There are several others with this same problem. Could you please tell me what feature to use similar to yours that will allow the "onclick" feature for my tabs or realign the <div> tag to allow that feature? Thank you. Another feature that may be helpful on future updates. When logging personal Coins or TB's, could it be possible to add a function so the owner doesn't have to enter the TB or Coin code for the trackable? Having a personal "mileage" tracking coin is logged constantly, but having to put in the code every time should not be necessary. There are many cachers that do this. Just a thought for future updates. Until then, please help with my click feature for tabs on my profile page. Please visit my page to view the problem by trying to click on one of my tabs. It works properly on the preview page in the edit details page, but not on the public page. Again, thank you. Link to comment

+LightHouseSeekers
Noticed something new today. Published cache logs no longer show as the first log for that given day. Say for example the cache was published at 1am on Feb 12, 2009. Then the cache was FTFed and logged at 10am on Feb 12, 2009. The FTF log shows up before the published log. Is this an inadvertent side effect of re-ordering the /My/ page logs? Ditto, I was just coming to report that. I was FTF on a cache this afternoon and my log is showing below the publication log in the listing. Very minor issue but it makes me feel like people will think I was a beta tester or something. I'll add my metoo. Found and logged our find of a new cache on the the 2nd day after publication, but noticed on the cache page that the FTF & 2TF logs appear to have been posted before the publication log, GC1K9F0. If it is absolute, is there another form of div tag that will allow me to use the tab type feature? If not, what other feature would allow me to do the same function? Thank you. Here was OpinioNate's response to my inquiry 3 days ago which leads me to believe that this <script> feature of the "onclick" attribute was not removed. Any response to my previous post? Have you tried regenerating the code Ranger Fox supplied? Probably when the DIV tag was stripped it removed some of the code. It would not have been reinserted when the DIV tag was returned. I believe this function is still possible. At least I am holding out hope. What say you TPTB! Link to comment

Same problem with my stat bar. - Copied this HTML source into profile details: <a href="http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=8e48dba5-ecc3-40b7-a5bb-ef30ceee5640" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.geocaching.com/stats/img.aspx?txt=Let's+go+geocaching&uid=8e48dba5-ecc3-40b7-a5bb-ef30ceee5640&bg=1" border="0" title="Profile for c-h-b" alt="Profile for c-h-b"></a> - Preview is ok - When viewing the public profile, the image doesn't show, and the page source looks like this: <a href="http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=8e48dba5-ecc3-40b7-a5bb-ef30ceee5640" target="_blank"><img border="0" title="Profile for c-h-b" alt="Profile for c-h-b" /></a> The "img src" part is missing! Hope this will be fixed soon... I think I found the problem with the stat bar not showing on the public profile page: It all depends on the italic text in the stat bar; if there is an apostrophe in the text (e.g. "Let's go geocaching"), the stat bar doesn't show. Without the apostrophe (e.g. "Let us go geocaching"), the stat bar is displayed normally. Edit: Replacing the apostrophe with & #39; (without the space character; this is just needed in the forum post) or with %27 seems to work! Edited February 16, 2009 by c-h-b Link to comment
+ShowStop
Why did you remove PDF print function??? This had to be one of the BEST benefits of premium membership. The PDF provided a great layout and provided ALL necessary information on a single sheet. It also gavce you the option of printing the PDF with the clue already decoded? I think removing this function is HUGE step backwards. The reason was already stated earlier in this thread. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...t&p=3828176 Lil Devil has made a nice tutorial on how to get the most from the print page here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=214184 And as noted, TPTB have said they will improve the print feature. So offer up some suggestions if you don't like the way the print page currently works (obviously after you review the tutorial link I posted). Link to comment
+Lookout4
The "send to GPS" feature for Garmin is no longer working for me. I checked, and the latest plug-in is installed. I'm seeing the same problem. Garmin site confirms it's installed and up to date. I can also on longer download coordinates to my Garmin. I wrote to Groundspeak/Geocaching site and asked and they gave me solutions for DeLorme even thought I stated that I had a Garmin. I used to be able to download to my Garmin, but no longer. I installed the plug-in and the Garmin site recognizes my GPS but Geocaching site does not. Fix soon please! Link to comment
OpinioNate
I'm having a problem with my profile. I have a section titled "Caching Cronies" that contains 6 individual stat bars. If I "Preview Profile Details" everything just hunky-dorey. But if I "View my Profile" or "View Public Profile", two of the images do not display and all of the tag lines say "Let's go Geocaching" even though they have customized tag lines. What gives? That is rather interesting. The custom tag lines ("Procrastinate Now!" and "WBBLWSMPP") are showing now, but two of the stat bars are still not showing, although they are clickable and to take you to the person's profile page. Hmm, I was having the same problem, and yes, replacing the apostrophe with %27 worked great, however the & #39 did not work. What is even stranger is the site still generates the statbar with apostrophe. I guess that's now a bug. Great sleuthing guys. I'll make sure this is addressed. Link to comment
+dpyckle
5552: Discontinue PDF print function Removed the PDF print function from cache page Why was this removed? I just went to Premium Membership, and appreciated the PDF printing -- neater layout, shows if any travel bugs/geo coins are supposed to be in the cache, and sometimes when I would use the "Print Simple" layout previously, the header info (coords, D/T ratings, etc.) would not print, so I would have to go back and write them on the paper (I know, I need to go paperless, but I'm just not there yet). Also gave a good place to take notes and work any decryption. I can understand some of the other changes, but this seems to have taken away something that I (briefly) found very useful and worth upgrading for. I agree completely. I liked the PDF version. It consistantly saved printing at least one page, saving trees, staples, and made a much smaller pile of caching sheets to clutter up the house with. I need the PDF printing too!!!!!!!! +RedDog1962
I used the PDF function for ( 5 logs ) and ( 10 logs ). I could click either of those and then save to a folder in my computer in the PDF format. I have a PALM Tungsten E2. I was able to drag the PDF file to the PDF icon on my desktop for the PALM and sync into my PALM. It worked wonderfully. It was very quick and worked great with Groundspeak notices of new caches. Now I have no idea how to get the information into my PALM. I am trying to go "green" and save the expenses of printing. What can I do to get the info into my PALM Tungsten E2? Better yet, can you bring back PDF? 2/17/2009 Reddog 1962 Edited February 17, 2009 by RedDog1962 Link to comment
+CacheBott
I use a Garmin 76s GPSmap unit... the send to GPS thing always worked for me in the past, but now since the upgrade, Even though I have downloaded the newest plugin and the test page says it recognizes my unit, I never get past the "download newest plugin" page when I click on send to GPS on Geocaching.com. What should I do?? I know there are NEW and "better" GPSr's out there now, but I REALLY do like the one I have and it works fine... or WORKED fine with geocaching.com I would hate to have to go out and buy a new one just "because" Link to comment

I could not get mine to work and I downloaded the plug-in over and over and still no luck. I switched to IE version 7 and now it works. I have a Garmin. It appears as though IE6 no longer is supported by Groundspeak/geocaching. Hopefully they can fix this. If not, then simply go to Microsoft and download Internet Explorer 7. Happy Caching! +budISwiser
I posted this elsewhere, but since the update, the communicator has been sending the files to my GPS but they are not showing on my GPS. I use a Nuvi 200 and have had no problems until the update. Link to comment

As a Web developer, myself, I do appreciate the amount of work and effort it takes to keep this site going. But I have to agree that the removal of the pdf function is a downgrade and very disappointing. I liked being able to batch a number of pdfs in Acrobat for later printing instead of printing them one at a time. There was more information on the pdf versions regarding coins, TBs, etc. and they definitely saved paper. SInce ecology seems to be an ongoing concern for geocachers they made sense. With the removal of that function, I now convert the cache pages to pdf myself (an ability I know isn't available to most since you need Acrobat to do that) and batch them into a "binder," but that makes for a two step process. And is more time consuming...I'd rather be out on the trails! I do hope you will reconsider the loss of the pdf function, if for no other reason than it saves paper, ink and eliminated the superfluous map when printing. Link to comment

There are any number of free PDF printing utilities for windows. http://www.google.com/search?client=safari...-8&oe=UTF-8 I prefer PDFCreator: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ For Mac users, creating PDFs is also built right into Mac OS X. +Viajero Perdido
Here's a vote in the opposite direction. I never used the PDF function, and I don't mind that you removed it. Not having PDF printing tidies up the cache page a bit, and frees up your time for other things. Link to comment

In the past, I used the non-PDF print-friendly pages and created PDFs of them myself. IMO, it worked better than the "straight to PDF" method on the site. The enhancements made to this function have made it even better. Removing the PDF functionality was a very smart move on the part of Groundspeak. Less server resources used, less bandwidth used, less developer & tester time required. I sincerely hope that it's gone for good - there are better ways they can spend their time and money, and there are plenty of ways that you can get identical or superior results with what's been provided. +Harwell5
FYI to all - the "onlick" feature for the <div> tag I have mentioned prior is not a script function that TPTB were trying to override per a PM from the TPTB. Below is part of that PM that was sent to me yesterday afternoon around 3pm EST. Raine has been working off and on all day trying to figure out why the onclick was affected by the change and is running into some brick walls. This is not just a case of flicking a switch I'm afraid. Tomorrow we're going to try to roll back some code that we think should fix the issue, so please check back then. Thanks. Hope that helps and is an encouragement to others as well. Link to comment
