Hi Folks, This may have already been posted to one of your numerous forums........ This AM I was out at the "Sidewinder CHP Barracks" just to the west of Yuma. In the conversation the subject of GPSr and mounting them came up..........I was given the following.

Global Positioning Systems (G.P.S.) (SB 1567, Oropeza) This new law allows a portable G.P.S. device to be mounted in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle, or in a 5-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield on the driver’s side. These are the only two locations on a windshield where a G.P.S. device can be mounted. The G.P.S. device can only be used for navigational purposes while the motor vehicle is being operated, and it is required to be mounted outside of an airbag deployment zone.

I'll check here in AZ to see what's up on these sides......... (another-Post)

There are only two states, California and Minnesota, that prohibit affixing devices (e.g. a GPSr) to the windscreen. SB 1567,which went into effect on Jan 1, 2009, allows for exceptions as described above.

The fine, by the way, for mounting a device (except as described above) to your windscreen is $108. I've never heard of anyone getting ticket though...

ARIZONA: ................

AZ 28-959.01 Materials on widows or windshield; exceptions; requirements; violation; definitions.

5. Signs, Stickers or other materials that are either;

(*) Displayed in a seven inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver.

(*) Displayed in a five inch square in the lower corner of the wind shield nearest the driver;

As a cacher who does most caching around the SoCal area, I would like to say.. Yuma cachers ROCK.

We have attended the last three Yuma Events along with several other San Diego Caches and we all enjoyed our caching and socializing in Yuma.

We will be looking forward for next years event!!

"GIDEON-X'S RANT".......I really get tired of just plain dumb or nothing Hints. Such as "Bring a pencil. "I still have stock in Band-Aids"....,none needed, etc.etc.. Just leave the space blank. But Then Some Folks want to take their shot at Humor (I Guess) And yes it does make me feel a tad better to let it out (RANT)........... :anicute:

"THE CLUE / HINT THING," Hmmm, This item will have to be considered by the "SQUAD"...............Perhaps a few "Zaps would help........one never knows! Is this just relative to the Yuma Area or is it a wide spread happening?

I have seen it in other places, but not as bad as here. I have as much fun doing the write up about the cache as going out looking. Finding history about the area or looking up information to solve a question is part of the game. I also take great pride in writing the log. I always attempt to make it humorous if possible. Maybe it is time to delete the TNLNSL type of post. Come on and get with the program.

:DThis is one of my recent logs.We looked high and we looked low. Climbed the trees for a better view, but that did not help. Crawled on our bellies, stuck our hands in holes no luck here. Called a phone a friend, a little help here. Went back to the car and viewed the PDA for info. No luck there. Sat for a spell and pondered our navel, but it did not speak to us. Went back for one fevered attempt before it got dark. On my knees praying to the caching gods. Please help, show the way. To my surprise a beam of light illuminated the very spot, I could hear angels singing. Opened the container, found the log guardian and wrestled the log away. Signed my spot did the dance of joy and was on our way. :)

:D Since I spent much of my youth on the river that could be a possibility. I have a small boat with no motor, and my oars were used for fire wood many moons ago. Will need borrow a boat to do some scouting. The park at Imperial Dam has some nice grass in the summer. How about the Island at Squaw Lake, it is close enough to swim too. :D

:) Hi All, Just a Bump to get "Yuma" into the eyes of the "Coasters"........B.B. is still pondering his project.........a few new caches in the Imperial Valley, as well as the Yuma area, (Berry Goldwater Range) I'm sure none of these will spoil before they are captured,.......but then some are what I consider

"GEO-TRASH" (pill-bottles, scrap, of paper log, no writing stick).........Oh well they will die a sure death in the desert heat!

Hi Coasters A News Up-date From The Yuma Area.

BY LANCE CPL. AUSTIN HAZARD, DESERT WARRIOR

All annual range permits for public areas on the Barry M. Goldwater Range will expire June 30.

New permits can be obtained at the pass and registration building, located next to the main gate, beginning July 1.

Applicants will need a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration, while those planning to ride a horse on the range only need photo ID.

Range permits obtained after June 30 are valid until June 30, 2010.

About 8,000 range permits have been issued since July 1, 2008.

Range personnel urge people to adhere to range guidelines.

“Just use common sense and follow the rules,” said Paul Chapman, station range permit clerk. “There is 840 square miles of nothing but wasteland out there. It can be a very dangerous place.”

On March 3, a Yuma resident fell down a mine shaft on the range.

Patrick Kautzman, a 61-year-old retired mechanical contractor, fell onto a wooden beam in a 70-foot-deep mine shaft and was fined $75 for trespassing after being rescued.

People found on the range without a valid permit will be escorted off and may be fined and restricted from receiving a permit in the future.

For more information, call 269-7150.

There are a few worth while caches on the range, as well as a lot of nature to be seen and experinced........even some historical stuff for those interested........

Stay Well, Cache-on, "GIDEON-X"

Just happened to log GC1G0F2 in Van Horn a couple of weeks ago and had lunch at Chuy's, not for the first time. Great food, great atmosphere, and a real John Madden memory event. See GC1G0F2 and the gallery for details. I mean, it's like the main attraction in Van Horn!

This has NOTHING to do with this wacky sport.

I just wanted to say Hi to Yuma.

My squadron, VMFA-513 (F4B Phantom) used to deploy on occasion to MCAS Yuma back in '67-'68. Yuma was a great little liberty town. We were known also to conduct several "Black-Op Missions" :( down there in San Luis. :)

My son, thirty years later, spent most of his enlistment there, with the exception of 3 tours in the Middle East, with VMA-311 (AV8-B Harrier).

So a big oo-RAH and Semper Fi to all my brother Marines!

Would like to plan a trip to the Cinnabar Mine GC812, some time in late November or early December. Need information on the best way in, as the road crosses Yuma Proving Grounds. Leave early morning and have lunch at the mine making a day of it. Any takers?

My gosh, we did this cache waaaaaay back when..........(when dinosaurs roamed the dez)

Anyway, we'd be up for a return visit, it's a cool spot if you don't fall in a mine shaft!

Hopefully, we can remember how we got there, but I do know we came up from our place at the

river in Cibola, the drove almost all the way to Erenberg on a dirt road, and went in from there.

There is also a road in from the 95 side, south of Quartsite, but we're not familiar with that.

Keep us posted!

Hello Yuma cachers

I am making a plea for assistance

I am working on GC1D712 Arizona Well Rounded Cacher (Fizzy Challenge)

To complete it, I need to log this cache, GCHV28 Princess Cache

As far as I can tell from the cache description, accompanying logs, and satellite map imagery - a high clearance 4WD type vehicle is needed to get within reasonable distance of Princess Cache

I live in the Phoenix area and drive a Nissan Altima - I have no direct access to high clearance or 4WD vehicles, quads, or dirt bikes - or a boat for that matter if trying to approach from the river

If anybody knows the area well and believes I can get a 2WD sedan within reasonable hiking distance, I should be good to go if you can recommend an approach from the north or the south

If that idea is a definite NO GO (which I suspect it is), I would love to accompany anyone going out for a drive or on a cache run in the area of Princess Cache - I would be willing to defray costs such as fuel and lunch

As those commercials used to say....

Thank you for your consideration

I do not think you can make it your Altima. A 2wd truck with hi ground clearance can make it, I did it many years ago. The road was well packed except in the washes. That is where you might need 4wd. Rain could have made ruts that could cause a problem. Contact some of the local cachers listed that have made the trip. They might be will to go again or know of someone who is going. I would go again, but my 4wd is down for repairs. :)

Only three groups have said they would like to go. Would like at least two more groups to make this an all day adventure. Plan to meet at Palo Verde early am and head out from the Cibola side. Checking the map there are several other caches on the way in to be had. :):santa::)

There seems to be some confusion on our prior statement on signing for others

Here is what we ment: When groups of cachers go to a location. One group starts at one end and the other group starts at another location. When both groups sign for everybody even if the other group was not at that physical location. This to us is wrong, also many others feel the same. When three or four people go out as a group and go to the same location and they all sign. That is different. At least they are all there. This to us is okay. It seems that some people have miss read our prior posting.
