New to Geocaching/Smache

Hey, I'm 14 from Southern England.

I found out about geocaching, and can't wait to give it a go. I've got a PocketPC, and I've installed Smache with no trouble and loaded some .loc files on. They appear as waymarks, as I expected. I was just wondering if I bought a premium subscription, would that make Smache any better to use. I noticed there was a screen for information about the cache and hints, etc.

I noticed that the 3 month subscription (which is the one I'd probably go for) had auto-renew next to it. Does this mean I have to renew it, or just that it will do it for me providing I don't cancel?

Cheers, and I look forward to giving geocaching a go!

As a standard member of geocaching.com, you are only able to download the .loc file format - and these only contain the basic information on geocaches.

Premium members have the ability to download a .gpx file. This is bursting with information, such as difficulty, terrain, hints, past logs and so on. According to the smache website, the program accepts .gpx files, so yes, a subscription would increase the information available to you on your PocketPC.

To answer your last question, yes...if you click on "Auto-Renew", it will automatically renew your member ship after the first three months provided that you don't cancel ahead of time. My best advice is to just go for the full year and then not worry about it. Let's face it, it's not like you're going to be able to stop caching after three months anyway!! By then you'll be hooked!!
