hoopiehide
I can't figure this one out. How is the date that old? GC1ACD1 Quote Link to comment
team moxiepup
Simple. The cache hider merely slipped through a rift in space and time to hide the cache in 1901. What I don't understand is why it was only published in 2008. Quote Link to comment

sbell111
That date is manually entered by the cache owner. Typos happen. Quote Link to comment
Tequila
That date is manually entered by the cache owner. Typos happen. You can chose any 'placed date' you want as long as it is in the past. This can cause havoc with some puzzle caches that refer to "fifth oldest cache" in the country for example. It is a honor system that CO's won't mess with things like that. Quote Link to comment

gpsfun
I can't figure this one out. How is the date that old? GC1ACD1 I know the two guys involved, and it's a combination of a very old cache hider and a forgetful reviewer. Am I ever going to have to pay for this post! I'll fix it. -Brad Quote Link to comment
gpsfun
OK, the real answer is that the date placed field gets changed to that value under some rare circumstances. I have now set it to the cache published date. Quote Link to comment
palmetto
Typically those 1901 dates are a bug in the date interface between GC.com and the Safari browser. It's not something the cache owner did on purpose. In fact, if they edit the page after gpsfun fixes it, it will likely reset to 1901. From time to time I scroll to the end of the Florida caches list, and correct the 1901 caches to their published date. I just did it this morning. Quote Link to comment

SidAndBob
I noticed that someone had found one of my caches in 1999, which was impressive as I only placed it last year. They were dead chuffed when I told them they were the first people ever to find a cache. Quote Link to comment
