ecologito
Hi, I just bought an etrex legend and I am trying to connect it to the computer so I can update the firmware and activate the waas before I get the known issue with the old firmware. I go to interface but I can't highlight the Serial Data format. I tried restoring default options but nothing happened. Am I missing something here? Quote Link to comment

+coggins
I go to interface but I can't highlight the Serial Data format.I believe you need to select "GARMIN" as the format under Interface in the unit for what you are looking to do. This is what I did and it worked. Edited February 5, 2009 by coggins Quote Link to comment
ecologito
I am trying to update the firmware. I already downloaded the updating software from garmin but it's not detecting the GPS. I tried two different USB to serial adapters. Quote Link to comment
+deb3day
A few months ago I purchase a used Legend. I got my USB to Serial adapter from Radio Shack. It came with a disk which they told me I had to run to get the adapter to work. It has worked fine. Did your adapters come with disks? I'm no geek so I can't help more than that. segler999
Ecologito, I don't mean to sound insulting, but did you install the driver for the USB adapters you tried? Since they are a USB device, you have to install the driver BEFORE plugging in the adapter. About adapters. If you have a choice of chipsets, the FTDI chipset seems to work a little better than the more common Prolific 2303 chipset. I use a FTDI-based USB adapter with my old blue Legend all the time. Works fine. Quote Link to comment
ecologito
I did install the drivers for the adapter. I might try to find the FTDI and replace the prolific driver. We'll see if that works, thanks segler and I'll keep you posted. Quote Link to comment
