+user13371
In another GPS related forum, someone mentioned there were 1122 caches within 10 miles of his home. I thought that was a huge number until I checked near my own home in Portland and found over a thousand. How many caches are within 10 miles of your home? Using "caches within 10 mile radius" as the standard, what place in the US (or the world) has the highest population density of caches? Edited January 24, 2009 by lee_rimar Quote Link to comment
+JBnW
Not here: N39 11.927 W96 30.690 63 total caches listed, 3 archived/disabled, 1 known to be missing, 1 placed...so 58 within about 10 miles. Quote Link to comment
+trainlove
The following thread, and perhaps a few linked to within it, has some numbers for a 40 mile, or 40 square mile, or 40 mile square... And my own musings about maximum possible densities. Quote Link to comment

+trainlove
OOPS. It occurs to me, now 11 miles farther in my journey today to several transfer station/junk yards that I searched out that thread, copied the link but didn't paste it. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=202425 Quote Link to comment
marikun
There are apparently 5585 caches within 10 miles of me, but that's without my own finds and hides. Quote Link to comment

+DiamondDaveG
I live in a fairly rural area with 2 large lakes and a large military area near-by that takes away major chunks of land. That being said, there are 62 caches within 10 miles of my family room. Quote Link to comment

+TrailGators
I just checked and there are 563 caches within 10 miles of my home. The majority of those are west of me in Escondido. There are not that many caches east of me until you hit Ramona which is 12 miles away. Quote Link to comment
+Vater_Araignee
I've got 126 and the closest is 1.2 I did some work where I mapped ever point on the map that was a 5 and 10 mile drive from home and in that zone I only have less than 50 caches and the closest one is 1.8 miles. +StarBrand
Just checked - we are up to 25 - I would have guessed less than 20...... (zip 69336) Quote Link to comment
+dakboy
150 caches within 10 miles. VERY heavily biased to the west of my location. There's a ton of room to the east that has yet to be populated. Quote Link to comment

+mfamilee
68 caches within 10 miles of our home. 14 of those caches are ours. That leaves 54 caches... found all but 3. Quote Link to comment
+beejay&esskay
91 caches within 10 miles. When I started caching in 2002, there were 7 (and 5 of those were virtuals). Quote Link to comment

I put Passaic, NJ (which is what is showing in your profile) in and got 322 caches within 10 miles. I've got 162 *current* caches within my home zipcode (14850). 25 of them are mine, I have found all of the others, plus a half dozen or so that are now archived. Quote Link to comment

As you pointed out there have been lots of threads like this before and from what I can tell there are a few areas in Southern California which have the highest cache densities. In the thread that you mentioned there were at the time of the posting almost 10,000 caches within a 40 mile radius. That's just a couple thousand short of the total number of caches in the state of New York. I live in a relatively low cache dense area. If I drive about 30 miles there are a couple of areas with a higher ratio, and if I extend my range to 80 miles or so a couple of other areas that are even more dense. Contrary to popular belief, New York City has relatively few caches. There are lots of places in the city where it's pretty difficult to get a decent signal. Quote Link to comment

There are lots of places in the city where it's pretty difficult to get a decent signal. Not sure that that's the reason for the low cache density in the city, although it is a contributing factor. That would account for fewer people with GPSrs. It's just a very tough place to hide caches! Millions of muggles. Reminds me, I hae to try to celar Manhattan of caches again this year. crawil
In Orange County, CA, I have 1,098 within 10 miles of my ZIP code. I've found 425 of them, so I still have some work to do! Quote Link to comment
