Recognition for Team Marzipan

Groundspeak recently received a message from a member of the UK geocaching community that we want to share.

The writer told us that Team Marzipan, consisting of Mike, Gail and Marzi the dog, place many of the caches in their area and have an excellent record of maintaining them. In addition, they have a record of adopting caches and creating excellent events.

We really enjoy seeing geocachers being recognized by their peers in this way and are grateful for the opportunity to make note of it here.

Cheers!

I'd like to add my personal appreciation as well  not only am I the Reviewer who has Primary responcability for North Wales. Team Marzipan live around 10 minutes drive from my Home. They are extremly busy cache setters who work hard at maintaining thier caches  and have organised many superb events, several at their own home. It is a honour and a privilage to know them.

The most impressive thing apart from the fact that they set a lot of high quality caches is that they somehow manage to maintain them all. A cache is rarely out of action for more than a few days and they have about 260 last time I looked! They certainly keep me busy and they are a very friendly family.

.... and not only that, but they are probably the nicest cachers I've ever met...

Whenever I want to venture to N Wales their house is an Open House, and I've seen 7 cachers sat round the breakfast table before now... I wonder how many will be there this weekend!!!?

Plus the fact that Marzi is my favourite ever dog.........

As it seems to be a Team Marzipan appreciation thread I would like to add my thanks to them for some great caches over the years. One of the key factors for me is the sheer variety available that allows you to easily pick and choose. I can certainly say that the Team Marzipan caches I have done with Pieman in the evenings over the last few years have been some of the most entertaining I have completed and they have always been most welcoming when we have turned up at chez Marzipan afterwards for a cup of tea and a chat.

And :( don't :D you :) just :D love :) the :) cache ;) listings :anicute: with ;) all those :D smiley B) things :D dotted :D around :D all :D over :D the :) place.

Mike, Gail and Marzi certainly make caching fun and entertaining in North Wales, we never know what they are coming up with next, the caches are always brilliant, some drive you absolutely nuts :anicute: but Mike is always on hand to give advice and point you in the right direction.

All the info you need is given, parking co-ordinates, trailheads etc, etc and the variety of cache types, containers, and locations mean that you can never ever take anything for granted if you are hunting a Team Marzipan cache, even Marzipan tries to give hints when he poses for photos - he'll become more famous than Lassie at this rate :(

Keep up the brilliant work - Mike Gail and Marzi - if it weren't for you in North Wales it just wouldn't be as much fun.

Thanks from Sheilaj0 & BIG GPD

Wow :P thanks for this amazing positive feedback :D . Most unexpected  .

We're just glad to give so much (apparent) pleasure to so many of our good caching friends. We always enjoy reading the logs as they flood in, they keep us so entertained and what a good laugh.

It's nice to be appreciated for all the hard work (mostly Mike and Marzipan of course) but also Deceangi (our unsung hero, the man in the background) for keeping up with us.

We've never visited the forum(s) before, a scary new venture :P but we had a few emails pointing us to this site so we had to look  .

Looking forward to 2009 and attending, and hosting (perhaps  ) more events - wonderful opportunities to get together and socialise. That's what it's about for us rather than the numbers, apart from Mike's addiction to setting caches :D .

Thanks to one and all and the help we get from our more experienced fellow cachers.

All though we're realitively newbies to caching, we certainly know a TM cache, usually because we've PF'd mike on route!!! Not ashamed to admit Mike's on my speed Dial

Really nice how they make the effort for all cachers, our two Girls always appreciate the occasional treats left for them on certain cachers as I'm sure do the other Junior cachers!!!

Oh and me as the big kid, like Mikes Syd Only goodies!!

You both certainly deserve this pat on the back by all North Wales and beyond Cachers!!!

Mike who may have got this sorted???

My monies on ?!??!?!?

Wow B) thanks for this amazing positive feedback :) . Most unexpected  .

We also love TM caches and events. Mike, Gail and Aliss certainly make us most welcome whenever we venture in their direction.

Apart from their caches and events I'd like to thank TM for their 'juggling' influence on our youngest lad. He had no interest in juggling until two years ago when we attended a TM camping event, he followed Mike around like a bad smell and learnt to juggle in that one weekend. He's not looked back since, juggles every single day and still talks about juggling all night on the pier :) along with Mike.

Just goes to show how caching can indeed change your life ........one way or another. :) .

Please add us to the Team Marzipan appreciation society.

I can only back up what others have already said. The variety of caches that Mike & Gail place is amazing. They are all excellently maintained and they are such great people who often invite me (and others) in for a cuppa when in the area.

They have just published their "Caching, Hashing, and Juggling in North Wales" event (GC1MB55) for the late May Bank holiday (23-25 May). From past experience this is a MUST NOT MISS EVENT. As well as new caches there will be lots of other activities! We're already booked in a local B&B (EYARTH STATION)!!!!

Well done Mike & Gail, kepp them coming - PhilPamandRob

I'm coming in late on this thread ... but....

Team marzipan has turned my newbie hobby into an obsession!

From my very first cache find a few months ago and asking for help, to adopting some of their caches, getting help with putting my own down, mimicking his style: :(:D:):D:unsure: , uploading loads of pics (the same as they do!) becoming a Team marzipan 'Mini me'?

I can’t get over how much time Mike gives to help!

He is a star!

Just can’t wait to eventually meet Team Marzipan, and sad that I will never ever get to meet the ‘real’ star of the team... Marzipan himself!

(Rest his little doggy soul)

For anyone not aware, sadly Marzipan crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Friday :( . A great loss to caching in North Wales.

Deci

And very sad it was when I read the email from Gail and Mike...

Good bye to the most famous caching hound in the world.... Marzi stayed with me when they went away once, and he was the best company I'd had in a long time.

I'm so sad that there'll be no more pics of Marzi on the zillions of caches Gail and Mike set each year :D

I was so sad to read that Marzi is no longer with us. He will be missed at the events, such a gentle, patient dog and great with all the kids :(

Team Marzipan caches are always memorable. A group of us got a FTF in Prestatyn at the North Wales Caching Event and it is still my No 1 best ever cache. Only TM could hide a nano in a bicycle tyre and expect you to lever it off in the middle of town on a Saturday afternoon. Classic! That along with Gone Fishing will remain in my caching memory for a long time to come. At TM events there is no expense spared and everything is catered for. the amount of work put into them is incredible, along with the juggling, fire walking and poi , etc

Keep em coming TM, we love you

It is nice to see when a cache owner makes this kind of effort when compared to othere who leave them Temp Disabled for months on end and make no effort whatsoever to do any thing about them.

Come on folks use this as inspiration and look through your list of owned caches and get out there and do something about those that are Temp Disabled or Archive them

This is our email sent to local caching friends, sorry to those we missed -

29th October 2009

A very, very sad day for us. We took Marzipan to the vet for the last time this afternoon and he didn’t come home. He was becoming increasingly restless over the last few days, unable to settle, particularly at night, and was panting virtually continuously.

We have many, many happy memories (and photos of course, one or two!!) of Marzipan – out walking, hashing (hash handle – Water Diviner) and caching - he made a bee-line for any muddy puddle, stream, river or lake, and collecting/carrying stones.

He was the most wonderful dog, so placid, gentle and obedient (except when posing for all his cache photos – the bored look). The only misdemeanour in his whole life was when he stole a sausage out of someone’s bag (on the floor) at our hash/cache barbecue and was sent to dog prison for a couple of hours.

We’ll never forget him.

Mike, Gail and Aliss

6th November 2009

We're overwhelmed by the many messages of condolence that we have received and want to thank you all very much for your kind thoughts. We miss him dreadfully and will never forget him.
