+Lydford Locators Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Is it just us or has the facility to search the whole of the UK for new caches gone? It now seems that if we want to know what events are published, we will have to search each region seperately or do a pocket query - neither of which are ideal. We already have our notifications set to the maximum distance, but it's not enough to catch the whole of the UK. The web site clearly says "Select a state and/or country to search " but it seems impossible to do one without the other. Quote
+Simply Paul Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 It's not just you. The 'All' option has vanished from the Newest in UK page. I can't see an easy way around the 'what events are coming up' problem you describe- it's what I used that page for too. PQs aren't a solution for non Premium members, and a region by region search seems a bit dumb when it worked fine as it was. I can't think of a reason why it needed to change, so perhaps it's one of those coding oversights that pop up once in a while and will get fixed. I hope so Quote
+The Hornet Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 When I was involved in developing this "extra" search facility I certainly NEVER anticipated it would prevent a whole UK search from being carried out. Indeed, to implement it when only a small minority of UK caches have the region added seems to me to be madness. Quote
+Gushoneybun Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Not a good development, we are in the West Midlands but are about 3 miles from the North West and not much further from the Yorkshire Humberside region with the East Midlands about 10 miles away! Quote

Still a pain though Edited January 13, 2009 by Simply Paul Quote

Still a pain though Especially when they have the wrong region chosen! I never really used the option I just have a pocket query set up for those with 100 miles of home and use the map to see where they are. Quote
+zensunni Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Please can we return to the ability to search on the whole of the UK not just the region. This new facility is no use if you live at the boundary of 3 or more regions. Quote
+Simply Paul Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 ...or have a nationwide interest in events. Quote
+Write and Mane Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Mainly use our local area for cache search, but we then have a brief look at the "ALL" search to check out Events and to see exactly how many caches are in the UK. Please restore ALL as it really is a very useful tool for our caching trips. Quote
+The Blorenges Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 (edited) It would appear search all Belgium is broken too! (thread here). Groundspeak are aware of the issue and are looking into it - main thread here. There was an update to the site yesterday, release notes here. +The Blorenges Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I think it's been repaired - I just went to the 'Advance Search', and did a search for Events, under United Kingdom ... and the -Search All- selection is back. I've got the full list of published events, in all regions Would someone else like to just check it's working for them too? (Just before I go 'Yipeee!', only to find that it still isn't working somewhere else...) MrsB Quote

(Just before I go 'Yipeee!', only to find that it still isn't working somewhere else...) MrsB Yep, works for me too. Note that when I went via the link posted at the top of the thread it was still exhibiting the 'broken' behaviour, but navigating to the search page without using that link brought back the -- search all-- option, maybe something to do with cached pages in the browser. MrsB Its not working for me, i still have to check via area - and when you booked to go to 4 events nxt week its a right faf Quote
+The Blorenges Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 In the Advanced Search, in the drop-downs, I can select 'Event cache', then 'By State/Country. In the other two drop-down boxes under Country, select UK, and State/Province it shows 'Select All'. Press 'Seek' and I get all the event caches listed, all regions... is it not happening for you? MrsB Quote
Ayondin Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Sometimes the boxes are pre-filled and then you dont get the select-all option, but if you change the country and then change it back again the select-all magically appears. Quote
+Lydford Locators Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 Horray it is working again. Thank you whoever sorted it. Quote
