Geocaching in Cuba?

Recommended Posts

I was just in Cuba, there are NO issues bringing a cell phone into the country, none at all. I didn't try to use the GPS on my phone though, cache was easy to find with a helpful hint and added information from the CO.

Don't think I'm going to bring my phone.

I was fine without it last time, so I should hopefully be fine without it this time too.

Changed my mind and decided I will bring my phone.

Leaving dark and early tomorrow!

Looks like we're headed back there again this year for spring break vacation, this time to the Holguin area. Not sure if I want to bring my android phone with me or not :sunsure:

Used my tablet. Preloaded it and it turned out to be useless. (Wi-Fi was very expensive)

~ Most people use iPhones to find the caches.

I did a "Google Maps" search at home and narrowed it down to that.

Found the 'John Lennon Park' and a few Waymarks that way.

Bummer tho that Groundspeak does NOT have a "Souvenir" for Cuba ... Shame seeing the number of Geocaches already found on the Island.

Sitting in the airport right now, flight arrived at 3am, waiting for our next one at 6:50am. Had a great time in Cuba again, brought my Android phone, but didn't really need it for the cache we did. Cubacan was a great cache, go find it if you're in the area, well worth it!

Not surprised they don't have a suvenir for the country. Groudspeak is Amercian and there are still plenty of other smaller countries/provinces/states without souvenirs too.

Nor does Italy... What gives Groundspeake.. Get your sh$t together....... Seriously frustrating when you only focus on North America.. All countries should at least have a min of one icon.

Any recent updates on iPhones and/or GPSrs in Cuba? We leave on February 9th and will spend a couple days in Havana and a few more days in Varadero. Any news about this would be appreciated.
