agronowd Posted January 5, 2009 Share Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) The Palm Beach County Environmental Resources Management (ERM) has contracted the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office to patrol over 30 natural areas throughout Palm Beach county. ERM works to promote a quality environment for residents of and visitors to Palm Beach County. ERM programs protect county resources from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Okeechobee. If you have dived on an artificial reef, walked a beach or explored a natural area, you have enjoyed the fruits of ERM's labors. The Department of Environmental Resources Management mission: to establish, maintain, and implement programs for the protection, preservation, and enhancement of the land and water resources of Palm Beach County. Four full time deputy sheriffs, fully equiped with state of the art ATVs, jacked up Ford F-250s, swamp buggies, air boats with GPS tracking devices, patrol 28,000 acres of Palm Beach County's last wild places round the clock to insure your safety. Jupiter Ridge 10. Hungryland Slough 11. Loxahatchee Slough 12. Juno Dunes 13. Jackson Riverfront Pines 14. Paw Paw Preserve 15. Sweetbay 16. Frenchman's Forest 17. Prosperity Oaks 18. Lake Park Scrub 19. Acreage Pines 20. Winding Waters 21. Royal Palm Beach Pines 22. Pond Cypress 23. Corbett / Lox Refuge Con /L-8 Canal 24. Lake Okeechobee Connector 25. East Conservation Area /Butts Lake 26. High Ridge Scrub 27. Hypoluxo Scrub 28. Rosemary Scrub 29. Ocean Ridge 30. Seacrest Scrub 31. Delray Oaks 32. Leon Weekes Preserve 33. Yamato Scrub 34. The natural areas are open from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week, including holidays. What Activities Are Allowed? Passive, nature-based recreational activities such as hiking, bird watching, nature study, photography, environmental education, and scientific research. What Activities Require A Special Permit? Camping, fires, horseback riding, fishing, boating, collection of plants and/or animals, and nighttime use. What Is Prohibited? Hunting, firearms, alcoholic beverages, fireworks, pets, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, and motor vehicles. I'd just like to thank the Wildlands Task Force for the job they are doing out there. I've met 2 or 3 of them, both out in the natural areas and at the Volunteer Land Stewards meetings.
