How tu publish Earthcache?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I just wanted to publish a new earth cache, but couldn't find the cache type in the list. I know that Earthcaches have been grandfathered some time ago, but I thought they were back again because this cache has been published recently.

Can anyone tell me why I can't publish an earthcache, or, why grufftymilo could?

Regards,

Nik

earthcache.org

What I was told:

"Note in particular that the primary focus of an EarthCache must be earth science - this does not include environmental or biological topics. The cache must contain substantial educational information regarding the geology of the site. The logging tasks for an EarthCache must also be primarily geology-oriented."

One of the most important things to remember about earthcaches is that they are NOT reviewed by Groundspeak (Geocaching.com), but by the Geological Society of America (Earthcache.org). Groundspeak simply provides the service of publishing earthcaches that are ALREADY reviewed by GSA as a courtesy to GSA and as a service to its users. This is also one of the reasons that it usually takes less than 72 hours to publish a geocache, but 3 weeks or more to get an earthcache published.

Even though it is the Geological Society of America, earthcaches are located world wide and have world wide sponsors/partners as well, including the Geological Society of Australia and Groundspeak among others. Also keep in mind when having difficulty with getting permission for earthcaches in US National Parks, that the National Parks Service is one of the sponsors/partners.

It is currently taking less than a week to get an EarthCache published. If you want to ensure that your EC is published as soon as possible, please make sure your submission meets ALL the guidelines.

The main reason some EC seem to take so long to be approved is because we have to go back and forth between the CO and GSA because the CO has not followed the guidelines. So please please please also read the guidelines again before you submit and make sure you meet all of them..and that way we can keep EC approval as fast as possible.
