ArtMan
All 28 benchmarks in Hancock County WV have been logged. Excellent. How many other jurisdictions (counties or county-equivalents) have logs for all marks? The only one I know off the top of my head is Manassas Park, Virginia, an independent city. I know because in 2002 I recovered the one and only mark there, HV5206 MANASSAS PARK STANDPIPE. This recovery is also recorded in the NGS database since it predates their desire to have intersections stations reported only when destroyed. Any others? -ArtMan- Quote Link to comment
+shorbird
Carroll County OH, with 24 benchmarks, also has all benchmarks logged. Quote Link to comment
holograph
My records show these as of Dec 6: (3 stations) City of Galax, Virginia (1 station) City of Manassas Park, Virginia (4 stations) Menominee county, Wisconsin It looks like there are 32 stations in Carroll County, and the following PIDs still remain to be logged under GEOCAC, or perhaps the logs just haven't shown up yet: DG7176 HZ2152 HZ2171 HZ2267 HZ2268 HZ2319 HZ2343 HZ2346 Quote Link to comment
+PFF
Hi, Holograph, A little off topic: I've asked David Gietka, the NGS Webmaster, to add "2009" to the "Recovery by Load Date" drop-down box when we ring in the new year. Based upon an E-Mail from him today, this might get done before the holiday shut-down. If not, I'm sure we will see it in early January. (I realize that does not affect your data pull for the Statistics, but it helps the rest of us check nearby activity in hopes of avoiding duplicate reports.) I thought I'd mention this in the Forum so DG doesn't get fifty requests--Grin. -Paul- Edited December 30, 2008 by PFF Quote Link to comment

[full-bellied chuckle] Back on topic - you guys are gonna force me to go dig up the tri-station with no remaining RMs that's in a wheatfield 24" deep so I can finish my home county, aren't you?! +PFF
Interesting list, Holograph. Thanks! Hey, ArtMan.....Are you coming south anytime in the near future? I believe we could knock off Colonial Heights, VA in one day, with time left over for Petersburg. Williamsburg is a little off the path, and recoveries only count if you're wearing a Period costume. But if you want to stop by the Smithsonian to see if they'll lend us something, I'm willing to give it a try. [Grin.] -Paul- Quote Link to comment

+shorbird
Somehow, a data entry coding error moved 7 benchmarks from Clark County IN into Carroll County OH(an amazing geographical feat!). Even the datasheets for the 7 HZ marks listed by holograph say Carroll County OH. When you check out the GPS coordinates, however, another story emerges. So, Carroll County OH ACTUALLY has 25 total benchmarks(not 32), with one yet to be logged by GEOCAC(thought I had them all--the one I overlooked is not at the geocaching website). Hancock County WV had its final 7 marks logged in December 2008, and those logs have not yet been updated by the NGS. Edited January 2, 2009 by shorbird Quote Link to comment

Some time ago, I created a list of all the marks whose coordinates place them outside their designated counties by a fair margin - 1 km, or more than could be explained by scaled coordinates. I believe Deb at the NGS will accept corrections if you explain how you know the county is wrong. See this ancient thread. Quote Link to comment
+Klemmer
I noticed CA didn't make Holograph's "short list". My home county and all surrounding one are sooo... far out of reach for completion. And anyway, down in SoCal, we just keep paving them over..... Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
Yes. I agree. I'd guess that at least a third of the ones in my home county are gone. Road improvements. Urban sprawl. I don't plan on filing DNFs on them. Oh, well. In Andy Bear's home county, well over half the benchmarks are missing. (The infamous 'set by boat, in clay tiles, in 1913'. Most of which were reported in 1935 as 'reported lost'.) Still lots to find (though they are getting fewer and further away). Quote Link to comment
