I'd say so. Nice work on the binder.

Thanks! I put alot of work into it. Soon it will be covered in geocache stickers, but I have to wait for them to be delivered :D

This is a fun game!

OK, thought I might add mine. I'm a newbie and see by the other posts that I need to add a few more items to my bag.

The other day I was out caching and got my foot punctured (yes, I did not have boots on) and I had forgot the first aid items (bandages, etc), but I did have duct tape. Waalaaa! Duct tape wrapped around a napkin served the purpose till I got back home. LOL

Before I head out, I use my MacBook Pro laptop to gather all the cache info.

CachingBag1.jpg

My items:

Nuvi 500 GPS

Cell Phone

Canon PowerShot Camera (using to take photo)

Waterproof BackPack

Pens

Notebooks

Post It Notes Pad

Flashlight

Baggies

Printed out Logs (for caches in need)

Duct Tape (!!!!)

Band Aids & Alcohol Swab pads

Swag: Kid friendly Snakes, Rabbits, Bubble Rings, Mardi Gras Beads

Swag: Biker Pins (Memory of Faller Bikers & Angel Biker

TB- Lighthouse (which I need to drop off next weekend)

(Added but not in photo) Gloves (Rubber and regular), Tweezers, Nail Clippers, Bug Spray

I always have bottle water in the car. I usually go caching with a friend, but if I go out by myself I let someone know where I have gone. I always take my cell phone with me, whether its a P&G or not.

Since I am new at this, I'm still trying to figure out how to be more organized and get the PQ to load right to my GPS. I believe I may be making this process harder than it is.

I'm addicted though! Thanks

(Hope the pic shows up! Took me a while to find out how to do it, but still not sure if it's there or not...preview doesn't show it..hmmm )

I FIGURED IT OUT! Wow, that hurt my brain! I had my LINK WRONG!

I can help you with the pic problem.

The easiest way to insert a picture you have posted somewhere else is to copy the url of the pic and then hit the little picture icon above the text box where you're typing your message. It looks like a little box with a tree in it. Then paste your picture url in there. It will format it for you. If you want to do it manually, then you'll want to put

|img|http://blahblahblah.com/picture.jpg|/img|

except that the | should be the straight brackets (as opposed to the 'angle brackets' (aka greater and less than signs), or the 'curly brackets' which are on the same keys) instead. Cant put it here or it will try to show a picture that doesn't exist and you wont be able to see the code.

Hope that makes sense?

Thanks! I went back and tried again. I had the pic on another cache log (but I think I just deleted it by mistake). I then uploaded the pic to my idisk (Mac.com) server, but for some reason it didn't work right either.

Thanks for the help.

I just grabbed my geocaching bag after a period where I hadn't been very active and I did an inventory. The contents are a snapshot of my geocaching activity. I emptied it right out and made a list. I think it would

be interesting to see inside your geocaching bag. So how about it, post a snapshot of your geocaching bag?

My Geocaching Bag

The contents of my bag with some explanations:

My dog Ana.

Screen Protectors - A package of screen protectors, swag. I use these handy dandy Radio Shack specials on both my GPS and my digital camera.

Rope: This is a bundle I keep in my geocaching bag because rope is handy, I have found stray dogs several times while out caching.

A flashlight, swag and handy to have if I need it for something else.

A "Cat in the Hat Came Back" book and a "Cat in the Hat" Game CD. I am collecting these "Cat in the Hat" themed items for a cache I am planning, I like starting caches with themed goods.

The box for my Oregon 400T, my wife actually put it in the bag because I had it sitting out and she knows exactly why I bought it. :)

Night-glo creatures, more themed swag for Esplanight.

A piece of bark, the raw materials for a "clue" rebuild, collected a while ago.

A Leathermen Fuse.

A Colorado pin.

Spare note books.

Other geocachers signature items, my favourite thing to find in a cache, I found item's from these geocachers in my bag; DMVC, The Ski Bum, OU8Alizzard, Dr Webe and a card from the GeoCache Junkies(Jezebel1967, Joxer and MaggieL).

A cache "Finders Card" for local cacher marmelkascar's cache "Drive You Nuts".

A 9-11 Commemorative dollar given to me by a fellow geocacher at the first Geocoinfest in Temecula where I had the extraordinary pleasure of meeting geocachers/geocoiners like Moun10Bike, Cornerstone4 and AtlantaGal just to name a few, I put a lot of pictures in my log for that cache. I met many other wonderful geocachers but unfortunately I haven't yet met avroair who managed to miss his flight, which is particularly ironic given that his geocaching handle makes me think he owns a private jet. :)

I found four Travel bugs.

A trackable "Unite for Diabetes" geocoin.

A trackable Celtic Cross geocoin making it's first journey, just released by a new geocacher.

An empty shell casing picked up while "Benchmarking" near Havre, Montana.

A musket ball found in the Cypress Hills on a geocaching adventure.

A Rendez-vous 2008 geocoin.

An Arctic Nomads personal geocoin.

A Def-con geocoin.

Notebooks.

Mini-bic pencils.

A compass.

A camera.

My Oregon 400T.

Normally I don't carry the items in the bottom right of the picture.

19 Alberta Wild Rose geocoins that belong to the AGWG, these beautifiul geocoins were manufactured by my friend Mike at The Geocoinstore, the same place you go to buy Signal Geocoins. The design was created by Alberta geocacher and artist, peanutbutterbreadandjam with help from a group of Alberta geocachers. These 19 Wild Rose coins are part of a series. Right beside those Wild Rose geocoins are nineteen of the metal "I am a traveller, Don't Keep Me" geotags that are made by Oakcoins and designed to be attached to travelling geocoins.

Depending on whether we are just hitting quick or short walk caches we usually just use the black shoulder bag with the Lock and Lock that holds all our caching stuff. For the long, day hikes the Lock and Lock goes in the backpack along with our first aid stuff and food for the day. The backpack also holds a 2.5L hydration bladder. My wife will also wear the lumbar bag with additonal 1 liter waters on each side along with the camera and other odds and ends. I also just purchased my first VOMP; an Ex Officio Ultra Lite Vest From SierraTradingpost.com. the vest also has back/side pockets that will hold a 2 liter nalgene on each side so we may have to change up what we do this summer. :)

It looks as though wavector has abandoned this coitest as well as the others he had going on. He may have left Geocaching all together. He talke about that once.

I hope all is well , wavector .

And if all is well.......................

...........WHAT THE HECK????????

Posted

A Little FYI.....

From What I can Research, Wavector last posted on February 18th 2009.

The last cache he did was February 8th.

But he was on GC.com April 13th 2009, last week . Did anyone hear from him?

It's ashame that he has 4 cointests going on with all the promises of Great coins that people sent him for his cointests, and he abanded the cointest threads.

I know That I as well as everyone who answered the Nutty Butty cointest worked VERY HARD to find the difficult answers. What a waste of time, I mean , they weren't even FUN, they were HARD!!!!!!!!!

Maybe he's decided to keep the gifted coins himself.

I have emailed him and posted that I hope all is well SEVERAL times. He was well enough to log on on April 13th, but not well enough to cancel the cointests or explein what was going on.

I don't know.

I'm Disappointed.

Nylon Backpack, circa 1989

Water Bottle - Bought this recently

Collapsible Hiking Stick - Part of my photography gear, the top unscrews to reveal a 1/4-20 camera mount.

Digital Camera, not in the picture, but it's case is.

Motorola GFRS Radio (I've actually got a total of four of these for another purpose, but I figure I'll keep one in the bag)

Bug Spray

Zip lock bags

Nitrol Gloves

Notebook

Pen

Sharpie Marker

Screen Protectors (Universal, cut to fit type)

Signature Items to leave in caches (Bronze Bear charms)

A Travel Bug (Unactivated)

A geocoin (picked up two days ago)

Compass (Ok, it was in there.. Now where did I leave it???)

Mini Maglite

Delorme PN-40

Spare batteries/Charger

And of course, the stuff that travels with me on a day to day basis:

There was an older thread, from maybe a year ago, that dealt specifically with geocaching bags and backpacks (and not so much with what cachers carry in them). I'm looking to replace the bag I've been using the past three years, so I went looking for that older thread and can't find it now.

Does anyone else remember that thread, and if so, do they have a link to it?

Thanks!

This contest is now closed.

I wil lbe reviewing the entries and announcing prize winners in the next few days.

Thanks to everyone who entered.

I will contact winners using their geocaching.com profile.

Posted

Thanks to everyone who posted pictures in this thread.

I want to say first that no one was actually left hanging in any of my unclosed contests, all the prizes that were rewarded were sent out, I gave away about 25 geocoins before things got screwed up here at my house.

There are still more prizes to give away and I will be contacting/announcing winners very soon.

A little explanation might be in order.

We have just completed a renovation which gave us a new bathroom in the basement.

It disrupted life in our house and left me wondering what happened to my geocoins.

I mananged to find most of them easily but could not find the most important coin that had been mailed to me during the contest, I stuck it away and couldn't find it again, I actually couldn't find anything again and felt lucky to find the LnL that had most of my geocoins. I finally found everything.

I want to apologize to everyone for leaving the contests open for so long. I figured I would find the geocoin eventually and couldn't really close the contests until I found the prizes.

The entries dropped off but everyone who had won a prize at that point had received it so other than a bit of nail biting for the people who had entered there was no problem that wouldn't eventually get worked out, and it has. I have learned my lesson and will keep the next contest short and simple.

I have the other contests threads to finish up as well as there will be prizes in those threads as well. I should have everything done by tonight. (Famous last words!!!)

So that is where we stand right now.

Once I get these prizes out the door I will restart this contest thread again.

Watch for that pretty soon.

More giveaways

griffinox has won a beautiful Albertosaurus geocoin.

AlbertosaurusGeocoin-1.jpg

This is an "in addition to prize" so there is still another Albertosaurus geocoin to be won.

That is right, I will be keeping everyone's name in the hat (margarine tin actually) and will draw for another geocoin soon. I will be adding more geocoins as well because I have just made a new one and will be giving some away for sure.

POST A PICTURE OF YOUR GEOCACHING BAG AND YOU COULD WIN A GEOCOIN!

It is that simple.

I have given away a lot of geocoins so far.

I sent out every geocoin that was won then stopped drawing for awhile, I have explained why I stopped drawing. I know that people don't like it when they are told they have won a geocoin and then no geocoin, that has happened to me. I won a contest setup by Fizzy Magic operating as Venona, he said I won, took my address then no geocoin. I wrote Fizzy Magic several times but no geocoin.

I definitely did not do that, if I said you won a geocoin I shipped a geocoin so people were waiting to hear who won the next geocoin, not waiting to get a prizze they were to0ld they had won.

I have wrapped up all the other contest threads and have given away another 6 geocoins including a 2006 Utah, a 2007 Albertosaurus, an Alan and Elli Jeep and two Earth Turtles.

The Earth Turtles are made by Montana artist and geocoin designer extraordinaire, tsunrisebey. I had one and was given another to give away so Gatoulis won a pair of desirable and rare Earth Turtles.

So after all is said and done, no one was promised a geocoin then not given one.

This cointest thread is now open again and I wll be giving away more geocoin prizes. All the geocoins will be trackable and have a custom icon.

You cannot win a geocoin after it's picture appears in this thread unless you have already entered. If you have seen the geocoins I have given away then you know you want to be an entrant before the next geocoin pic is posted.

I am adding an Alan and Elli Jeep, donated by the geocacher Chrysalides. Thank you so much for your gracious act. Chrysalides told me that they needed no encouragement to participate and I should use the prize they won to give to another geocacher.

So now we have two geocoins on the table, an Albertosaurus and Alan and Elli Jeep. These Alan and Elli Jeeps are very desirable geocoins, thanks so much Chrysalides.

This is really good news if you have posted a picture of your geocaching bag, a chance to win another very desirable geocoin!

I just have a medium-size camera case for my geocaching kit, but I've managed to cram a lot into it. Don't have a picture of it all spread apart, but the contents are:

Garmin GPSMap 60Cx GPS (clipped to side)

Canon Powershot A510 digital camera (clipped to other side)

Five or six spare ziplock bags

Bag of signature chainmail balls

- Regular size

- Micro size

- Nano size

Generic swag for trading

Any TB I happen to have picked up

Pair of thin cotton gloves

Three spare micro-pencils

Two spare micro-logbooks

Pencil sharpener

Mini maglight

Chapstick

Gerber Clutch multitool

Emergency silver blanket

Emergency medical kit

- Needle + thread

- Gauze

- Medical tape

- Antiseptic wipes

- Bandaids

About 6 feet of camouflage duct tape

Fisher space pen

Pencil

Mechanical pencil

Emergency whistle

Silva Polaris compass

Four spare AA batteries

PalmOne Zire 31 palm pilot

Head lamp

Bushnell 8x21 binoculars

Two feet of 16-gauge stainless steel wire

Six feet of twine

String-figure string

Nylon strap with buckle

Pocket knife

Waterproof notepad

Lighter

Bandana

About 8 Advil and Aleve apiece.

Yeah, it's more of a generic survival kit than anything else. All I need to find is some kind of energy gel with a well distant expiration date so I don't have to worry about replacing it often, and I'll be set. Maybe some water purification tablets, too. Any other suggestions for what to get into there, I wouldn't mind hearing and seeing if my bag has room for it.

I would suggest to add a signal mirror and some type of fire starting material. Alcohol hand sanitizer also works great for fire starter as well as cleaning hands. Also a 30 gallon garbage bag (can double as a rain cover for yourself or your gear).

So far, every item has had to be used on at least one occasion. Unexpected situations include the park maintenance staff swithcing on the area sprinklers and soaking the whole family, 3yo being caught short and needing to do #2s in the bushes, falling off a log, and so on...

Occasionally: magnet on string, camera...

Velcro on the strap to attach my Smartphone;

Smartphone with velcro on the back;

Spare Smartphone battery

Signature items (wooden nickles);

2 garbage bags for CITO;

One trackable (CITO token); and

several golf pencils (borrowed from IKEA).

I think that is all. I had a compass, but had to trade that for some swag one time.

Once I get my new GPSr in I'll have to throw together a bag. As of right now my girlfriend and I operate from the back of our SUV taking with us GPS, pen, and a few items to leave behind. Sometimes we make two trips to repair a cache and waterproof the logs a bit with new plastic baggies. All these pictures look great and I'll do one when I get my new unit in and put one together. I want to start hiking longer day trips and it's time I do this.
