+niraD
Any folks out there trying to find caches without a gps ( I have one). It adds a new level of difficulty to the gameAfter my first four finds using a borrowed GPSr, I found 328 caches without using a GPSr (using Google maps and satellite photos). I finally bought a GPSr, but I still don't use it for every cache hunt. There's also a Cacheopedia article on geocaching sans GPS. Quote Link to comment
+Chamma
Here is a cache that I put together, Chievres then had to put up for adoption when I moved. A Gps was needed to get you to the starting area but then it wasn't needed till after the last clue was found. Another of my caches that is now arcived used a GPS for the first point, then all distance and direction, and intersections with a compass for the final parts Cabear Quote Link to comment
+StarBrand
Sure - I've done it a few times. Some have found many hundreds without ever owning a GPS. Quote Link to comment
+DonB
I've found several just using flash earth. Quote Link to comment
+fox-and-the-hound
I think many cachers have recognized a likely spot just from overhead imagery or a description to find a cache. I have heard of a guy who ONLY uses maps, compass, alt. etc. though. I think he's up toward Maine and if I remember correctly he has at least a couple thousand finds. I was pretty impressed. +edscott
Any folks out there trying to find caches without a gps ( I have one). It adds a new level of difficulty to the game I use the satellite image, and a compass if necessary. Don't own an altimeter or GPS. I guess it would be harder for most people but I've been using a map compass for Orienteering for years so it's probably easier for me than figuring out how the gps works. Quote Link to comment

Edscott, I'am impressed with your technique sans gps. Keep up the good work. Some day I hope to have as many finds without the gps. Thanks, Groleau Quote Link to comment
