The 2008 Birthday mission was a mammoth job…

2009 will be broken down into 6 smaller mission groups…

Each of two months

January and February – hosted by Butterfly Lady

March and April

May and June

July and August

September and October

November and December.

~Tasia~ will be hosting one of these also.

We look forward to other volunteers – if we get too many volunteers, we may just have to draw names…..

Calling all January and February Birthday boys and gals…

This mission is for you! If you have a birthday later in the year, then please be patient ~ your turn will come….

To participate :

You must be willing to send 2 geocoins (unactivated if trackable) to one participant.

You must be a registered user in these forums with some history of posting.

If you have a birthday in January or February and want to be part of this mission please send me a message through my GC.com profile.

Geocaching Name

Birthdate (you may include your age you are turning if you like)

Real Name

Address

Are you willing to mail outside your country? Or global region?

(Note some people don’t get this option, unfortunately, due to being the only one in their country signed up)

Do you have a seeking list? If so, where. If not, are there any coins you'd like to own?

- Please do not ask me to assign you a certain individual, the missions will be assigned at random.

What you need for this mission

1. Be prepared to mail in time, a birthday mission to a recipient.

2. Include 2 unactivated and trackable Geocoins (you may send more)

3. Add birthday goodies and treats as per the lists below.

4. Wrap it up, box it or package it and send it.

Birthday Missions should include something from the lists below.

The best mission would be one item from each group (two geocoins though)

THIS MISSION IS ALSO FAMILY FRIENDLY ~ please consider that when selecting gifts.

GROUP A (requires at least 2)

Regular unactivated Geocoin

(This can be upgraded)

GROUP B (optional extra)

Pathtag

Micro geocoins

Caching pins

TB tags and Geocoin buddies

GROUP C (optional)

Caching related items

GROUP D (optional)

Personal signature items

Regional souvenir

Postcard of your area

GROUP E (optional)

Novelty item or toy.

GROUP F

Birthday card or tag.

International missions should omit any seeds and plant material.

These "groups" are to help as a guide on what to include ~ especially for those who have not participated in a birthday mission before.

You may also wish to check out last year's mission.

2008 Birthday Mission

January Birthdays – you may get yours a little late – sorry.

With Christmas and New Year and Summer holidays (here downunder in KiwiLand), and this mission starting out late….. well, you get the picture.

NAMES FOR JANUARY IN ASAP – I will start allocating missions on the 20th.

NAMES FOR FEBRUARY IN BY 15 JANUARY.

Wow, Butterflylady, you are on a roll!!!!

Since we are in a similar time zone, I guess I am the first to reply :D

My birthday is February 11 and I had a great mission last year...looking forward to this one.

I am also very nervous and surprised to find myself volunteering to organize the March/April Birthday Missions. With some guidance from an expert of course

I too will volunteer to run a the mission for a couple of months. I'll send you a message, Butterfly_lady.

In the meantime, I might as well sign my wife up for her birthday:

I don't get invovled in to many missions becuase I already have some many packages going in and out. But I do want to put my name out there if you get someone who backs out. I will find something to send to those people that need a gift. I would have for you to have to cover all the missed missions. Let me know.

GardenGorilla I think you have to update your profile concerning your location. :D

Nope, it is already updated. WA stands for Western Australia...Butterfly_Lady is in New Zealand. I guess I sorta regard that as simlar time zones. 2 hours difference I think as opposed to 15 hours to Montana :D for example.

When I fly to Perth earlier this year it was 3 hours... or was it 4?

Only 2 hours difference Melbourne / NZ

2.5 hours Adelaide. and I think Cairns was a world of it's own.

But - remember, except for a couple of the island nations, New Zealand is ahead of the world, when it comes to time.... We start each day well before you all....

love this idea,,,dont think I fully understand the groups, but no birthdays here till july,,so i guess we wait for those months? and so if my wifes is in july and mine in sept do we go twice??? just need a lil understanding.

Sorry - I was going to write - "mission to include something from each group below" but thought that could become too bulky for long distance missions.

They are a guideline to what to add to the geocoin to make it into a gift.

I'm with DJ J Rock re the groups.....the way it reads is that all the groups except the Geocoins are OPTIONAL - so you could end up with someone just sending the two coins and a card. I thought the idea was to receive a few extra birthday treats, as well as the card and coins. Is that right?

I'll work on the wording for the email that goes out...

Yes...the idea is geocoins PLUS birthday gift.

CHANGING THE WORDING....

The best mission would be one item from each group (two geocoins though)

THIS MISSION IS ALSO FAMILY FRIENDLY ~ please consider that when selecting gifts.

required

Regular unactivated Geocoin ( at least 2)

(This can be upgraded)

and a Birthday card or tag.

PLUS items to turn this into a birthday gift - suggestions below.

Pathtag

Micro geocoins

Caching pins

TB tags and Geocoin buddies

Caching related items

Personal signature items

Regional souvenir

Postcard of your area

Candy or chocolate items.

Please try to include - Novelty item or toy - be aware of the age of the receipent.

As pointed out, there was a little too much "optional" items....

THIS MISSION IS MEANT TO BE GEOCOINS (2) PLUS BIRTHDAY GIFT

Tossing just 2 geocoins into an envelope would satisfy the mission (Just), but it is meant to be more than that. Small items that relate to caching, the cacher's interests, or a play on their caching name add a great deal of pleasure - both to the sender and the receiver!

Please ensure you understand what you are expected to send before you sign up.

Edit - to try to get away from "groups" - that was the wrong word, but I can't quite find the right word.... it relates to the gift contents being varied.

Hello Butterfly Lady,

One correction if I may The Finding Irish 4 is my Dad, he sent the e-mail on my behalf.

I will be trying to complete the mission myself, at least I will give it a shot, only call Dad if

we need him :)

Have the missions been e-mailed? I want to make sure I do not miss mine if I have a Jan B-Day

to get out.

I want to thank you for your time setting these missions up for all of us to participate in, they are

always so much fun, from our end anyway.

Thank you again,

Queeine

Have received name its an early birthday so will have to get our skates on, please forgive us if we miss the date of your birthday as we are away from home at the moment until 30/12/08.

Whoever receives Owen - Preteenski will see that he become Teenski this year! He loves Scuba diving, skiing, lego and sometimes caching depending on the type of the cache. He is currently collecting rubber ducks and key rings. Hope this helps abit. He is a typical boy of that age.

This morning I quickly checked my mail and found my "birthday mission"

What a lovely wishlist. We already had some shopping to do and by coincidence we found lots of ..... stuff.

My daughter and me had a hard time not nuying to much of that stuff.

I think i already have a nice coin and a good incoming one. Just have to check whether they do not own it already.

Do you think it is allowed to enter my daughter in the birthday mission when she becomes 15 and 1/2 ?

When she becomes 16 it is around the Dutch tradition Sinterklaas and the december month and it is already very busy. So we often transfer her birthday party to 15 and 1/2.

Previous Birthday missions have had half birthdays.

It comes down to being prepared to send a mission at that time of the year also.

As I am not running all the missions, it also is up to the co-ordinator at that time.

VOLUNTEERS - apologies

I am feeling the pressure of being ready for leaving on Boxing day, and have yet to send out that email to volunteers.
