Recommended Posts

First time I'v tried a cointest so here goes

Today is December 9..... gasp only 16 days until Christmas ;)

I just can't seem to get in the "spirit" this year and so far this is all I've managed to get done

housecontest.jpg

no shopping, no tree, no cooking, nothing-zip-zilch-the big zero

So what's your part in this you ask yourself, and why is she on the computer playing when she has so much to do?.....well like I said just can't get into it this year and figured maybe if you share pictures of what you have done maybe I'll get a little inspiration and get my hiney in gear.

The winner will receive this lovely coin and my husbands deep gratitude, hehehe

wearingofcolorscoin.jpg

Oh boy I think I may have goofed on my choice of coin for this cointest, I am so sorry Erik, I forgot about your ornament cointest. I can't remove it now because a couple people have already replied, but I'll just add a few more coins and the winner can choose which one they would like. Again, sorry for the "senior moment"

christmascointestgroup.jpg

The winning picture will be announced December 24, 2008, after I get home from work and go to church and see my grandaughter singing in the Christmas choir, so look towards late in the evening.

Good luck and thanks in advance for your help in curing me of my scrooginess

Hello BVnLJ,Your Hpouse is beautifully decorated. We decorated last weekend since it was cold and didnt want to venture out to far, we got our tree and decorated it and put icle lights up in the front windows and played Christmas music all day that helped alot, as we didnt know if wwe were really in the Holiday spirit as well. But that helped so much now our house is so beautiful. We hung all of our cards we have gotten and it is pretty bad none are from Family yet they are all from geocachers, which are like family to us anyways :santa: We cant wait until it comes, nothing better then spending the Holiday ad Christmas and the New Years with friend, family and kids in the family, and our geopups. We have to say tho Christmas is just not as what it used to be since our grandparents are all passed away and we have grown up and have no kids, but Thank God for our Neice she is 8 and hold it all together yet. We had a snow storm last night and now it is looking alot like Christmas, now we have that song in our heads. Merry Christmas and to all a good Evening. Thank You for having this coin tests our friend. :) By the way we shop all year long so we dont have to do it all at the very last minute and thank goodness we did because we were in every mission this year and gave away all of our extra coins away ;):santa:

Christmas caching? Even without snow great fun for our twin! So go into nature and find yourself a great cache and share your christmas greetings with the cache owner and other cachers with your FOUND IT note in the logbook and on internet. After that decide what you really like to eat and drink, go shopping with a good friend and let your husband cook. I guess you'll have a great Christmas this year!

Well I usually string lights all around the ceiling and the fireplace in my house plus other various odds and ends, the little ones really like it. But this year I am not going to be home so I don't know if I will do this or not. With the pinch this year I have spent all my spare time since beginning of Nov making FIMO clay gifts to spread the Holiday Spirit ;)

Thank You for posting the beautiful lighted colored tree you posted Sharom12, this reminds us to share something very special that we do every year and it is a family tradition. Every year the night before Christmas we get in to the car and drive around and look at all the neighboring lights that people have put up for the Christmas season. Our parents did this at a very young age to put us in the vehicle to make us go to sleep, we dont know what it does but people hat have kids should know what we are talking about there is something about getting the kids in the car and they are out like a light. Think our parents did this so they could enjoy the holiday lights as well. It is something that is been carried on for years to come after that is something as we grown up we still enjoy. May everyones Christmas be Merry and Bright. :D

I have to say that before this year, I never really thought about 'Christmas Spirit'. I could never really get into it in Canada and felt like a lot of it was obligatory (well the work part of it anyway!) especially when the stores start with the decorations after Halloween. A lot of the stuff we do nowadays makes it hard to appreciate the true meaning of Christmas, which is different according to your religion or non-religion.

I had to move to a different country to realize what is important to me at Christmas. Right now as I look around all we have up is a tree and decorations the children have made at school. All our 'stuff' is still in shipment and that includes decorations, xmas music, and baking stuff... And you know what? No one is complaining!

This year most of all we will miss our family gathering, Grandma's Turkey and butter tarts and sleigh rides in the snow but we will have each other and we'll go snorkeling on the beach and have 'shrimp on the barbie'. The important thing is we'll be together.

Merry Christmas Everyone, Enjoy the season!

Yesterday evening I made some natural christmas ornaments together with 20 colleages and it was a lot of fun. So, since yesterday I'm in the christmas spirit as well!! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the evening, but I do have a picture of the result:

Hope this helps you getting into the christmas spirit! Also, the parents of my partner Fantasties made us a very original christmas tree. They made a lot of thin pieces of wood with a saw and made a tree out of it. That must have been a lot of work to make!

Tomorrow we're going to buy our christmas tree, so by then the christmas spirits will rise even more

Oh!! What I will post??? I have many photos to show you! :D

I do not do much in outside decorations, but I always make the manger under the tree! It is one of the family traditions! My grand father used to do similar things! I use real stone, nothing is attached together, so I have to find the best possision for them so everything will be stable!

the grass is real too! It is actually the little green grass that grows in places with moisture or on trees...

the lake and the well, has real water, etc! It takes me a lot of time, but it worths it! I enjoying doing that, and I do not care if it is only for some days!

Oh! I forgot! behind the tree, (I am not doing anything on the tree! the rest of the family is responsible for it! :D ), I put blue light

Christmas spirit.... I hope you will feel it when you see my manger!

Mery Christmass everyone!!!! :D

WOW thank you guys, I'm enjoying looking at and reading all your posts....

GATOULIS - your tree and nativity set are beautiful, what a nice display to have in your home. You must have a ton a patience to do all that and it looks georgeous with the blue lights lit up behind it too!

Li-Z - you fresh greens centerpiece is pretty...once the candles are lit I bet it will smell even better than it does now : )

sharom12 - now you just gotta love a blue tree, actually blue anything in my opinion

kini_ont - oh my how lucky you are to have some much snow, we love it but don't seem to have snowfalls amounting to anything here in our part of PA

ky.m.guy - looks like the Griswalds  . But truly the christmas spirit on the bin for food donations for the food bank

** My daughter just sent me this email .... thought it was funny**

"The wife has been on my case to get the Christmas lights up. They are up

now and for some reason she will not talk to me..."

WOW!! I love that blue Christmas Tree! It must have taken a lot of time to decorate it. I don't think I'd have that much patience.

Every year, my parents take my brother and I driving out to look at Christmas lights throughout our town. This year, my dad saw this house during the day and wanted to go back to look at night. Sorry the picture is a little bit blurry (It's a frame from a video I took of the house). The thing that I thought was cool is that they have a rubbermaid bin near the road for anybody who wants to donate food to the food bank. It shows that there are still some people who think about giving more than recieving!! After all; that's part of what Christmas is all about.

For anybody who lives around the Pickering-Scarborough, Ontario area, This house is on Ilona Park, just off of South Liverpool (2nd right south of Massey's) There is also a fairly well lit house on Vicki in Pickering. Ajax has its share off well lit houses. There is a good house on Chapman (Ajax, just off of HWY2).

Hope everybody has a great Christmas,

Kyle

Parking around Temple Square is a nightmare, and it's too cold for me to walk several blocks. I was on the way back to the motel though, and had to stop at a light...Right next to a vacant spot. I pulled in and spent a bunch of time getting pictures of the lights. I'll upload some later, but here's what I closed out my time capturing...Enjoy!

That's one of the coolest Christmas decoration I ever saw. I wish I could have one made up with all the dogs we have and had in the past but, I think it would also made me cry ;) The dogs look so natural, it seems as if they were really looking at us. Each one has it's own personality.

Thanks for sharing this one with us! Please tell us which ones are still with you :D

For many years now I have been making a Christmas village. I used to have a railroad track going through it but with all the new housing there was not enough place anymore. It takes a few hours to build, my husband is in charge of the electricity and always give me the look when I begin talking about starting the construction :D The fun part is putting all the trees and the people all around the place. When it's done, I just drop new sparkling fresh snow over the village, sit down and enjoy looking at it. I named it Snowman's Village because there are 23 of them spread all over the place ;)

An opportunity to brag about Montana again, lol. I'm sorry I just couldn't help myself ;) I'm just proud, what can I say?

MONTANA CHRISTMAS TREE WELCOMED TO CAPITOL

U.S. Senator Max Baucus On Hand To Present The Bitterroot Forest Tree To The American People

November 24, 2008

(Washington D.C.) – Flanked by a police escort complete with motorcycles and a security detail, the Capitol Christmas tree arrived safely at the U.S. Capitol today. The tree has taken its place, standing before the Capitol Building, after traveling across the country from the Bitterroot Forest in western Montana. Montana’s senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus was on hand to welcome the tree to the Capitol, and officially present Montana’s tree to the people of the United States.

The tree will be displayed outside the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. from the official lighting ceremony in early December throughout the holiday season. The 78 foot, 144 year-old subalpine fir arrived after a three week journey from the Sapphire Mountain Range in the Bitterroot National Forest- drinking nearly 35 gallons of water each day.

“This tree has been on quite a journey across Montana and across our country,” Baucus said. “I’m so proud that this symbol of peace and joy has come from Big Sky Country. When the tree is lit, it will glow with all the radiance and warmth of the people of Montana. Now that it has arrived here, the holidays have arrived in Washington.”

“This tree helps us share a little bit of Montana with the rest of the country,” said U.S. Senator Jon Tester. “It is a reminder to folks all over the world of the beauty of the season.”

The tree traveled approximately 4,200 miles. The journey included 2,000 miles in Montana alone with stops in 22 small communities, which included parades, ceremonies and holiday celebrations in the tree’s honor. The tree also stopped for celebrations in North Dakota, Missouri, Illinois, West Virginia and Maryland before arriving in Washington D.C. The tree was accompanied along its journey by 2008 Montana Capitol Christmas Tree Coordinator Nan Christianson, a Bitterroot National Forester.

“I feel both humbled and honored to be able to do this for the people of Montana,” Christianson said. “The nation has given us a great deal of support along the way. We’ve felt welcome everywhere we’ve gone. This has been very positive experience for us, just has it has been for the folks who’ve had a chance to see the tree.”

The tree will be decorated with 5,000 ornaments handmade by Montanans and 10,000 energy-saving LED lights. The theme for the tree this year is “Sharing Montana’s Treasures,” which is embodied in the unique ornaments Montanans of all backgrounds have supplied.

The official Capitol Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will take place on December 2, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. on the West Lawn of the Capitol Building. U.S. Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester will be joined by U.S. House Representative Denny Rehberg, Governor Brian Schweitzer, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, members of Congress and Montanans. Chris Gabrielsen, a 4th grader from Havre, won a statewide drawing and will join the Speaker in ‘flipping the switch’ to light the tree for the first time.

Wow, went to the site to see the tree and it is really amazing, can only imagine the work and time it took to make it,

enjoying all the posts by everyone, so far, I am not in the mood for Christmas either, weather is bouncing between 40 to 85 and back to 40 and back to 80, Christmas is supposed to be 83 degrees here in S. Texas. Good thing I left the tree up last year, all I had to do was unwrap the sheet and plug in the lights. My husband has decorated the outside so it is pretty, just wishing I could be with my grandchildren this year.....

Have made a mega huge (x12) size batch of the White Trash Receipe from last years contest....:D yum

Looking forward to more pictures.....

I don't have a picture to contribute but if any of you are having trouble finding your holiday spirit, this is what works for me....

Every year, my parents and my husband and I pool some funds earmarked for those less fortunate. Each year it varies in the amount depending on what we can afford - but we always try to stretch as much as we can (we cash in our airmiles and gather our Canadian Tire money, etc.). I approach a local non-profit agency and get some details on one or two families who are in need of help to make their Christmas brighter. I go out and buy gifts and food for the families, add in wrapping paper, tape, bows, cards, and gift certificates and put it all together in reusable storage totes. We then deliver the totes to the agency for distribution to the families.

After I am done shopping, I lay everything out to show my husband and my parents and the boost to my mood is unbelievable. We start off doing this for the good of someone else and in the end, it is I who feels like a million bucks. I know there is always more I could do to help those in need but hopefully my small contribution puts a smile on some faces as they have a beautiful meal and open gifts on a day that had the potential of being so bleak.

Perhaps this will spark you to do something similar...even dropping off a bag of pantry items is welcomed at so many agencies over the holidays. And it will get you in the Christmas spirit...I guarantee it! :(

b_225020.jpg

(Edited to add: found a picture (see above) from a hamper we did a few years ago. The ones now are much more elaborate and contain enough pantry items to feed a small family for a week or so)

You need to get together with Castleman, he does a killer victorian village, too, it's HUGE!!

I wish I could say that I had the Christmas spirit, but alas, it's sorely missing. Tonight we tried to get the tree up, the kids were underfoot, everything spread over the living and dining room, my mood just kept getting worse and worse and in the end we sent the kids downstairs while I sat upstairs and tried to chill out and then made them a quick dinner and put them to bed.

I just can't get in to it this year. Every year seems worse and worse and harder and harder.

I'm ready to cancel Christmas :)

Naomi

Edited to add, we did take these today. Santa is wearing a full jacket made of wolf skin that was made in 1937, first time I had seen an "old world" Santa, he was pretty cool

But Ozzie, Rosie and Duke are still with us and loving having more space on the couches! lol.

I am constantly amazed at what a good job the artist did...considering these are made out of wood!! The colors are right on, even the facial expressions are perfect! It's definitely something that I'll cherish long after these 6 dogs pass on and we have new pups in the house...
