+Eclectic Penguin Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 (edited) I've also decided that one of the last remaining Antique Bronze coins for sale through the original batch will have a similarly coloured but rather more shiny unplanned and free companion Well, one person has pretty much guaranteed themselves a gold coin by buying out the entire remaining stock of Antique Bronze coins Congratulations - the order will be in the post on Monday! Someone will have a number of coins for swaps soon I venture! There are a small number of each metal still held back in case deliveries don't take place - these will be made available in due course. +Eclectic Penguin Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) I'm not quite sure what happened but the latest Gold coin auction had a bit of a misturn last night in that when I checked who'd won it this morning, it said it had already been paid for according to e-bay, despite me not knowing anything about the buyer - this means that all postal details as well as direct contact details are now no longer available to me. Having said that - it's probably me not used to some of Ebay's whiles and maybe I clicked on something last night that I now can't undo. The winner's identity is safe and is one of those who have hotly contested almost all previous auctions for the coins. But, until I can figure out what went amiss and also make sure the gold coin is safely on its way to its new rightful owner once we can arrange payment, I won't put any more out there for the time being. [Edit - as I was typing this - all has been resolved - golden bird about to take flight tomorrow morning ] Edited January 30, 2009 by Eclectic Penguin Quote

Goldy has Green eyes and Copper has blue - and when placed back to back, front to front, back to front and front to back.........well, you just have to marvel at how this was done, very cool indeed. Goldy is staying with me but Copper will be leaving after a few days for her journey. Thank you Hywell for sharing these beauties with me! Quote
+Eclectic Penguin Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 Announcing:::: TWO NEW MEMBERS TO THE ECLECTIC PENGUIN FAMILY!!! Yes, that's right, a new fully trackable Geocoin is now available of this coin series that rapidly sold out the moment it became available last month - but there are differences with this little fella... Firstly, he's minted in antique copper. Copper proved to be the most popular choice in the original run so I decided to mint him in this metal but added antique to make him a little different - and smart he looks too. This time, he's also been given an epoxy rezin making the coin's face alltogether much smoother to the touch and eye. Best of all though... he glows in the dark!!! And boy does he glow when he's been recently exposed to light! Although he's had all these "upgrades", he still costs the same as the original two E.P. coins - £6.50 (approximately $9.30 at current exchange rate). Alongside Glow-in-dark E.P. is pin-badge Penguin. Based on the front side of the original copper design and colouring, the face looks identical to the original Geocoin - however, although this isn't a trackable item, it should make a smart addition to the Geobag or Geohat I reccon - and best of all, costs a fraction of the price of a regular Geocoin! As a bonus - a very small number of the original 2 coins have been now made available on the cart too - these were originally held back in case of postage loss - I now feel I can make them available to finish off the sale of the original run. As an extra bonus - any order made in the next 24 hours will be put into a hat and the randomly selected order will be allocated a limited edition Gold Eclectic Penguin (listed as #20/50 in the series). All these (apart from the gold edition) can now be ordered on my cart at http://www.eclectic-penguin.org.uk/cart (and congratulations to Richard, who actually managed to get an order in for the first online glow in the dark E.P. before I even sent this post!!) Opalsns Great to hear - I originally intended to sell the last of the originals only at events - but I'm glad I made them available online now! After the ones on the current shop sell, there are still about 2-3 of each that were held back for people who never came back to me after originally asking me to hold a coin for them - I'll probabluy put them on the cart soon too as it's been nearly 2 months now. Someone wished to recieve an Eclectic Penguin as their valentine! I'm chuffed! Sadly this didn't happen in real life this year to the real Eclectic Penguin though Quote
sarahbelle Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Aww, Eclectic Penguin, you have made me so happy!! When I first started browsing this forum seriously about a month ago, this neat coin quickly became one of my favourites. I was sad because I don't have any coins yet, so I knew I couldn't trade anybody for one. Today I was looking around again to start a 'wanted' list, and I found this post about more being available. I have just ordered two, a glow in the dark one for me, and a copper one for my dad who loves penguins. I'm finally going to be able to start my collection! Thank you so much, you made my day. Quote

+Eclectic Penguin Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 (edited) Another quick sellout of my singnutare coin - oh my! Antique Copper with glow-in-the-dark belly Eclectic Peguin sold out far quickier than I imagined it would, again! Thanks once again to all who bought him/her I hope to mint another flock of E.P. coins in the near future to continue to be a signutare coin for me, but this time I want *your* input too. What would *you* change? If you're influential in giving me new ideas, you'll get an Eclectic Penguin coin of the new design in gratis!!! I'm pretty much stuck with (and like) the coin die pattern for the face (but not necessarily the colors - open to suggestions there but I think the glow-in-the-dark belly really worked last time round) but I'm now open to suggestions to the coin's tail as that wasn't especially imaginitve now that I've had some experience with other coin designs... (including one that's in advance design that I haven't even mentioned on the forum yet). To see the original designs For Eclectic Pengiuin, you can see them on my cart at http://www.eclectic-penguin.org.uk/cart or better, earlier on in this thread. Comments about new ideas sent to both my personal Geocaching account and also to this forum (preferred) are most welcome! One quick comment from my side - I'm not keen in minting any more coins with copper finish - the luster on these seems to start to chip and flake quite quickly, especially if they make contact with other coins... +catsnfish Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 (edited) I like the current as it is simple and eyecatching. The only suggestion I might make would be to have more defined tux tails with "buttons" of the metal. Possibly move the "trackable at" message to a wing or onto the edge of the coin, along with a year, if that doesn't add too much cost. I would definitely stay with just the lettering and tux without a lot of extras to maintain the simple elegance it has now. as for colors I would like a grey, groomsmens color but there is no reason you couldn't offer bright, Prom tux colors as well. +Eclectic Penguin Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 (edited) I like the current as it is simple and eyecatching. I want to drop all (well most) of the text off the back for the next generation so elaborate suggestions for the back side are most appreciated! The coin's tail side is going to be a new die whatever I do next time round (which cost me $75, ehatever I do to it) as it was a very basic design first time round to get the coin minted as I really didn't think about a 2 side design for my first coin . So I'm prepared to take elaborate suggestions or basic modification suggestions! My second coin's designs can be seen here including a more immaginative tail side: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=215436 My third personal coin... Ahem. just a preview, but a complete premiere mention here on this thread in this post... A coin to represent the first passenger railway train in the world - the Swansea to Mumbles Tramway. I'm still in advanced design and ideas but here's a web site about the tram/railway. http://www.welshwales.co.uk/mumbles_railway_swansea.htm Would you be interested in buying a coin based on this idea? My current design is based around the rounded 1959 tram design of the tram when the line closed, for the heads of the coin... tailside... I'll let you know... +Eclectic Penguin Posted December 5, 2009 Author Posted December 5, 2009 I was doing some tidying up this morning and I came across something I thought had I had completely sold/given out many many months ago - an unregistered limited edition Golden Eclectic Penguin coin! My initial idea was to have a bit of fun and make this single coin available to readers of this forum by having a simple PM/email based blind auction where I invited anyone who wanted to bid to contact me with their highest bid by a certain date (no feedback on current status, unlike e-bay) and the highest bid would win, post free, anywhere in the world - but I've been warned by friends tonght that this may possibly contravene Groundspeak rules about commercialism, even though it was a one off. Can anyone advise me on this please (especially perhaps the forum moderator)? If this is indeed against GS rules, I'd like to investigate a way of doing this that meets the rules of this forum but at the same time made bidding for this coin primarily available to readers of this forum as a form of gratitude because it was mostly you guys who made the coins successful. I've found putting coins on e-bay will open it to many other speculators who are often completely unaware of this forum. Quote
+murphyrulez Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Please, allow me to help you with that... I'll send you my address and we won't worry about all these rules and regulations. (I can dream can't I) Quote
+Droo Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 What you suggest has been done on several occasions on the caveat that the coin you're selling is trackable on geocaching.com. But do please consider Murphyz request a little longer. Quote
+Eclectic Penguin Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 (edited) I've had several requests recently asking if I plan to produce any more Eclectic Penguin coins. Based on how quickly the first 3 types sold and the marvelous feedback I still get, I guess there's still a demand. No more goldies of course... I've dropped the ball of getting this arranged for them being Christmas gifts, unfortunately - but would people be interested in another run of this coin, that's still dear to my heart, early on next year? (silly question?) I can't afford to change dies at the moment so it'll be the same front and background design - but I'm open to the colors/enamel finishes. I'm thinking a lighter dark color for the front (a dark grey). Glow in the dark, like the last one? Perhaps some very limited edition ones (at extra cost) with glittter/garish colors? Finally, if there is interest, would you be willing to pre-order a coin once the details have been revealed, expecting a delay of about 1 month between order and delivery? Feel free to contact me personally or let me know through this forum. And... Advanced notice - I'm currently designing the first in a set of coins for the South Wales Geochers group looking for a release mid-spring next year. No details at the moment - but think of a shaped coin... Miner's Protector Lamp... As well as serial number, each coin will have an individual limited edition serial number etched on it just like a real lamp. Formal notice when the design is more solid, but we like what we see so far (my fourth venture with Oak Coins). You read it here first! Edited December 8, 2009 by Eclectic Penguin Quote

+Eclectic Penguin Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Resizing can't be done at the moment as again this would be a completely new coin. I'm hoping to mint the existing coin, using all the existing materials as cheaply as possible, but make it something new (as I managed with the glow in the dark version). Changing the underlying patterns - again can't be done, without making a brand new coin, I'm afraid. At the moment I was hoping to release a new version of the Eclectic Penguin coin with different colors, metals and enamel styles, but there's a lot of scope for new ideas there there I hope too. Quote
+Eclectic Penguin Posted December 10, 2009 Author Posted December 10, 2009 Probably not practical to initiate a new Eclectic Penguin coin issue at the moment then, based on the immediate response. I may see if there's interest in the new year but based on the response over the last day or so, not much. Quote

+Eclectic Penguin Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 My fellow penguins, ladies and gents, Good news, I hope! I've had a stream of requests for Eclectic Penguin coins over the last year but because of the recent economic climate (including me being an out of work penguin for over a year) I've been unable to put together a new flock. E.P's seeing better times at last and I'm hoping to put together a new set of Eclectic Penguin coins in the very near future (weeks, not months). These are going to use the same dies (front and back) but there will be differences (and none will be identical to previous issues)... All will be limited edition for a start (no more than 50 of a single type). There may be several very limited edition (only 10 minted). There's a possibility of an EXTREMELY limited edition or two (less than 10 minted). Up front, with current costs the basic limited edition (50) will cost no more than £6.50 as with the last set minted that weren't limited. Other sets will in all probability reflect the extra manufacturing costs and in some cases the rarity of the issue. The reason I'm posting here is largely to gauge if there's still interest in the old fella (lass?) and also , would anyone be able to suggest ideas - if a special limited edition is minted based on a suggested idea, that will be made available for the basic £6.50 rate to the suggester, regardless of the overheads! Plus, is there any interest in the very limited edition versions any more? High on the priority list to date (based on previous comments and sales): glow in the dark. Very limited edition glitter. Very limited edition pink () ) I have my own ideas too - but would be interested in feedback - and also whether, a year and a half after the original Eclectic Penguin coin was last available for sale, if there's still interest in the old bird. Quote
+scificollector Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I'd be interested in a remint of the EP. I am not familiar with all of the versions that were produced but how about one in Polished gold with a yellow glow where the main body and eyes should be. You could call it "Electric Eclectic Penguin" Quote

+Eclectic Penguin Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 (edited) The previous editions were Antique Bronze, Copper and Antique Copper (with glow in the dark belly & eyes). All had black body, purple bow tie and blue pupils. There was also a limited edition gold Eclectic Penguin which was highly sought after, but was never made available for sale over the internet (apart from a small number of ebay auctions) - it was only sold personally at events and also gifted to a few people. All of these sold out within 6 weeks of being issued. There was also a pin-badge made of the coin's front side - a very small number of these now remain and if found, are sold at local events. Thanks for the encouraging responses! I definitely look forward to putting in an order for a variety of new E.P. coins in the next week or so (both limited and extremely limited editions!) And yes - glow in the dark will be available once more, but with subtle differences - and also there may be a pink-bellied glitter penguin too... I'm doubly encouraged as someone I don't know approached me today in a local Geocaching event and asked if I had any Eclectic Penguin coins still available for sale! At the time I didn't think so as I haven't had any of these to sell for a good 12 months but I've since remembered my unwritten rule (now for the first time written as it was the very last of the breed) - "anyone who asks for a limited edition golden penguin coin in person at an event is sold one at standard cost price". Looks like the final Goldie, #2 in the series, is finding a home in Germany in what I know to be very good hands Quote
+Eclectic Penguin Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 Allrightie - I'm in the advanced stages of getting a run of 100 new Eclectic Penguin coins ordered (a mixture of very limited and extremely limited editions). Before going ahead - many have encouraged these editions but at the end of the day I need to know if people, epsecially those who bought the initial coins last year and said they wanted more, would be willing to pay a couple of extra bucks/quid for the limited tags. I'm not talking a lot more - in UK £ the original coins were sold for £6.50 each. Exchange rate changes probably mean that would have to increase even for basic coins as sold then now - but let's say for argument's sake £8 for very limited (20 only minted) and £10 or slightly more for extremely limited (10 only minted), which incur exponentially increased manufacturing costs too. Another question to the same group of folk - would you also be prepared to pay a little extra for a new tail side? I always now feel that the tail side of the original coin is a little basic to say the least compared to my subsequent coins (be they my or South Wales coins). As to the designs I'm proposing... well, nothing definite but at least one edition will involve glitter in the enamel, I'm looking at a male female role (mildly pink and mildly blue bellies) - but I suspect all may well have some aspect of glowing in the dark, even if it's just the eyes... All front designs will still be limited to the original coin die. Honest answers appreciated (even if sent in by PM/email) - and if negative, I'll try to take this on board. I'm just hoping for some feedback to see if these'll sell as well as the last flock (having seen vastly reduced sales from America for my latest two designs this year for the South Wales coins, but conversely hugely inflated sales within the UK). ... P.S. I have precisely one signed and numbered gold Eclectic Penguin left - #2 in the original issue! I held this back and was originally going to auction him off on e-bay - but have decided to give it to the first person who orders all 4 of the South Wales Geocoins (Miner's Lamp, lit & unlit and South Wales Golfer's coin satin Nickel & Antique Silver). The offer is for those who order 4 (or more) of these coins* through the shopping cart and must leave the message "Goldie please?" in the comments field... I make no money from this - these coins raise money for Mega Wales 2011 event which takes place next year not too far from where I live. The South Wales coins can be purchased at http://www.eclectic-penguin.org.uk/cart - good luck! I promise to post here as soon as I get confirmation that this has been won - but it's also nearly midnight here at the moment so local delays may be seen. * You don't have to order one of each - just 4 South Wales 2010 coins will suffice Quote

+Eclectic Penguin Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 (edited) Thwarted tonight in getting the new set of coins ordered by the payment company rather than the mint/coin company. They blamed me and then others for problems. Feeling very angry at the moment with a company which likes to throw blame at others when there seem to be problems without offering solutions. If they don't want $$$ going through their accounts fine, maybe others are prepared to take up the gauntlet? Edited July 18, 2010 by Eclectic Penguin Quote
