Eventually I talked them into just letting me take the batteries out and keeping the GPS in my carryon. Quote Link to comment

Then you might have a problem. Although, I can't remember the last time (years ago) that I had to turn on a camera, a laptop, or a mobile phone to prove it works. I fly with my GPSr in my laptop bag at least once a month. I've never been asked about it. Quote Link to comment

Many parts of the wolrd they will go missing - and airport insurance will probably not pay out - similar to a camera or jewellery. Quote Link to comment

I usually travel (on holidays) with GPS, navigation system, laptop and lots of power cables for all these things in my backpack.
