+McB. Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 It all started on the Swedish geocaching forum (www.geocaching.se/forum) where it was clear that plenty of non-Windows users felt the need for something like GSAK. Hence, I started an open source project to accomplish just that. jASAK is implemented in Java, so it shall be able to run on basically any platform supported by Sun. We have just released version 0.2 (codename Boris), which includes the following features: Import of GPX files Persistent storage Filtering and sorting Export of GPX files For the next release, 0.3 (codename Edgar), which is scheduled to arrive at 2009-05-01, the following additional features will be included: Interaction with GPS units through GPSBabel Automatic e-mail fetching (manually or on a scheduled basis) Google Maps integration for routing Additional export formats jASAK is, as mentioned in the topic, free software. Thus, anyone is able to download the source code and adapt it to their own needs. Of course, there is still a lot of work to do before we can call jASAK stable, so if you feel that you can contribute to the project, don't hesitate to get in touch with me. The project website is: http://jasak.googlecode.com Quote
+5 Caching Campers Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 This is a really nice idea. I like the open source and cross platform nature of it. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to actually do anything on my system. I downloaded and extracted it and ran the jASAK.jar file. It came up with a window that looked like it would list caches if I had any (obviously I don't yet) but I couldn't get it to actually load any caches. I tried doing the "File -> Open" thing and selecting my GPX file, but no dice. Quote

I tried doing the "File -> Open" thing and selecting my GPX file, but no dice. That's unfortunate. I know there are issues with the GPX parsing, but the errors occur very sporadically which makes them hard to resolve. We do appreciate if everybody who tries to use the application and happens to stumble upon a defect (very likely) submits a bug report on the project website, including any error messages that might show up. If the bug is related to for example GPX parsing, please include the GPX file with your bug report. Thanks Edited November 19, 2008 by McB' Quote
+McB. Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 I would also like to add that we do have some performance issues with the GPX parsing. So, if the caches do not appear immediately, please just wait a while. A GPX with 500 caches should take roughly 15-20 seconds to parse and store in the database. Quote
+Quiggle Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Moving to the hardware/software forum. Quote
+Xaa Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Is this still alive and worth investigating? I've seen that it is still just alpha software, and I've seen that there haven't been any code changes lately. Is this dead? Waiting for people to assist? Or moved elsewhere? Quote
