+hofy67
We just got our Nuvi 200 in the mail today from Walmart.com No it is not a 205 I checked. Instead of the regular SD slot it has a microSD slot. No big deal as I have both size cards. I am wondering what other suprizes this little guy has. (Software version 4.50 BTW) Quote Link to comment
+Red90
Are you sure? I have a 250, which should be the same physical model and it uses SD. The specs certainly say SD. Quote Link to comment
+Ether Bunny
My 200W takes SD. I put a 2 GB SD in and it works fine. This review of the 200 says it uses SD cards. http://www.gpsreview.net/garmin-nuvi-200/ Edited November 19, 2008 by Ether Bunny Quote Link to comment
+Ether Bunny
Take a look at http://pilotsnipes.googlepages.com/index.html - you will never need to use paper again! This site guides you nicely in using your Nuvi for paperless caching. The device itself is not great on the trail, but it does store a lot of cache info as POI's. You need to use GSAK as explained at the link, but it is well worth it. Quote Link to comment
+TDTN4fun
Wow, this looks pretty cool. Thanks for posting the link Ether Bunny - I have to try this on my 260. Any advice on what size SD card to get for my 260? Edited November 19, 2008 by TDTN4fun Quote Link to comment
+hofy67
Every thing I am reading on the web says standard SD card. As you can see from the pics below it is a 200 with microSD Yes, Ether we bought this just for paperless caching. We already have GSAK paid registered version and have already loaded our POI into it. We will test it tomorrow. Quote Link to comment
+hofy67
BTW here is the exact one we ordered. (order placed on Sun the 16th delivered on Tue the 18th! with 97cent shipping!) http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...uct_id=10242292 Quote Link to comment

+Redwoods Mtn Biker
If it's a 205, that would be easy enough to tell. The 2x5 series has a third data field. It shows current speed while navigating. Quote Link to comment
+hofy67
Hmm, this is getting very interesting. As Redwoods Mtn Biker says, 3 data fields is a 2x5 series. This has 3 data fields! This is what the screen of a 200 looks like. This is what a 205 looks like and also what mine looks like. I will be doing some more research today. So far it looks like we got one heck of a bargain for $128! Quote Link to comment

+hofy67
A little more poking around in comparison to the 205 this morning. This 200 has Where Am I? (find closest hospitals, police & gas stations, nearest address & intersection) not suppose to though only 205. Is there any way to tell how many waypoints it can hold without filling it up? This is about the only other difference between the 2 that really matters to us. Quote Link to comment

Actually, according to the Garmin web site, the Where Am I feature (for nearest police station, gas station) is available on the 205 but not on the 200. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=...reProduct=13429 The other difference I saw between the two units is that the 205 has 4 hour of battery life instead of 5 on the 200. But for the price you paid, what a deal! A way to get more information from the diagnostic screen (though, unfortunately, probably not the information you really need): http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1132 Quote Link to comment
+Redwoods Mtn Biker
It's actually got a number of features not found on the 200. I wrote about them in my nuvi 205 review. Maybe hofy67 should go to Vegas for a few days! Quote Link to comment
+hofy67
Chrysalides, thanks for the link to the diag screens. Holding on average speed gave me one set of diags Holding on the battery meter another set, picture below. Holding on the sat level gave me the satellite diags. Also shown below is a screen shot while we stopped for lunch. I am pretty much convinced we have a 205 in 200 clothes. I also seen the settings for MSN and FM traffic in the diagnostics. Sorry these pics are not very clear as i was using my cell phone camera. Quote Link to comment

+Red90
Do you have tracklogs? 205s have them 200s don't. Garmin is a strange company. Quote Link to comment
SergZak
I think this is Garmin's way of reducing their internal inventory without publicly discontinuing (yet) the nuvi 200 (and likely other models as well). There are ~40 nuvis out right now. Garmin, as well as the consumer is likely having trouble keeping the nuvi mess sorted. Edited November 20, 2008 by SergZak Quote Link to comment
