Good Deals on GPSr

Recommended Posts

I recently lost my gps and have been searching for the best buy...finally the $$$ is in place.

Anyone know of the best place to get one either on-line (reputable-like you used the company or know someone who has) or know of any specials coming up. Or anyone have know of any spectacular coupons out there right now.

I must say I am looking for new not refurbished, just cause……

I was thinking of waiting until Black Friday to see what kind of deals hit the streets…..but then again I wanted one in place by then to enjoy my holiday vacation...

Feel Free to post here or send me an email....any help will be appreciated....

I looked around a bit, and found Amazon's price to be very competitive. There doesn't seem to be many ads right now for handheld GPSr, though I keep seeing advertisements for in-vehicle GPSr (like the Nuvi), so I suspect Black Friday to be pretty much the same.

If you're interested in Black Friday ad rumors, check out this site.

www.pcnation.com has really good deals on Garmin handhelds, got my Legend HCx from them for $180 shipped, and a friend of mine just got a Rino 530HCx from them for well over $100 less than REI was selling them for. And pretty much all their units qualify for free shipping, and it's good shipping too, FedEx 3-day, not snail mail than might take a week or more to get. I got my Legend 3 days after I ordered it, and that's including the day of the order, I highly recommend them.

Also another vote for the refurb DeLorme PN-20 at www.tigergps.com , I had one, and it was like brand new, except a lot cheaper!

Tigers reburbed PN-20 is $170 now (I paid $200 4 months ago) and it is a heck of a deal. Best GPS I've ever owned (3 magellans and 1 garmin). It's definetly worth a look!!

You can still get a new PN-20 for 249.95 if you do not want a refurb. You do not just get a GPS for this price you get the following with it.

› The Earthmate GPS PN-20 handheld GPS receiver

› DeLorme Topo USA software with full U.S. topographic and street-level detail

› Pre-loaded worldwide highway and major road base map

› Certificate for $100 worth of data downloads

› 1-GB SD Card & Reader

› USB interface cable

› A convenient neck lanyard

A extra cost for others.

Okay I was looking for a garmin 60csx to replace what I lost....grrr..

Anyways what is this earthmate pn - in non techie terms....

You can find more information on their sight. It is a GPS, but you can do more with it with maps. You can even download satellite imagery to it to enhance your GPS experience. The good thing is it comes with most of the maps and it only cost $30.00 a year to subscribe to their sight for unlimited map downloads if you want.

They will soon come out with a update to improve it's geocaching abilities. Not that it is lacking there now. Probably as close as you can get to paperless now but after the update it will be much better.

You can read more about that here.

The firmware update is for both units.

From their update:

Earthmate PN-Series Firmware Update

First, we are planning a firmware update for the Earthmate PN-Series (PN-20 and PN-40) devices to deliver, among other things, a Geocaches page that allows the user to see all of their unfound caches complete with the Geocaching.com Cache Type symbols.

My experience has been that the best deals of the holiday season come around the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Usually by then all the good deals are gone because you waited too long. I have most of my Christmas shopping done now. No lines, no rain checks, no driving in heavy traffic, no hassle. If something goes on sale most places honor a 30 day price guarantee. Last year I had all my stuff earmarked to buy online and when I went to order them after Thanksgiving, about 90% were sold out already. Decided to jump the gun this year. :)

I was just planning to to go with the Etrex H for $89.97

Big downside is the serial interface. My laptop doesn't have one, not even sure if my desktop does - I would be entering them by hand. There are adapters, but they don't always work.

There are other upgrades on the Venture HC, but the interface and color screen are the important ones IMO.

Try buydig.com I just bought an Oregon 400t and got a real good deal. Not sure what other gps they carry but it can't hurt to check.
