+Carbon Hunter
Have been watching this for a while - need to go with prostrate test! Nah - wouldn't that one be the fingertip test? I assume this is just the rule of thumb??? OK - I'll go for a medical virility test? Quote Link to comment

+malo mystery
Something where the "Wasserman" is involved... Capedoc - if nobody answers soon, take us out of our misery! +DamhuisClan
Ok, if not the "inner" part, then maybe something to do with the "outer" dangling part? Quote Link to comment
+CapeDoc
If your Wassermann test came up positive, what would you be suffering from? Syphilis! Leaving the Pooks well alone now, 12 men have walked on the moon. We all know the name of the first man to walk on the moon. 2 men have been to the deepest point in the ocean. Who are they? (and for interest only, when and what was the name of their vessel?) Quote Link to comment
+Discombob
Have been watching this for a while - need to go with prostrate test! I went for a prostate test once. I wanted a second opinion, so I asked the doctor to use 2 fingers Quote Link to comment

Hmm, I am guessing that one of them may have been Cousteau. As for the name of the vessel...for some reason Atlantis comes to mind, but I am not sure. Quote Link to comment
+cownchicken
If it is Cousteau, his boat was called Calypso (there is a John Denver song about the boat.) Sure we are looking for a submersible vessel here though. Edited January 8, 2010 by cownchicken Quote Link to comment
+GlobalRat
I think the submersible was the Trieste and one of the crew was Piccard. Can't recall if it was a brother or son of the person who created the vessel, something like that. Out of interest, Cpt Jean-Luc Picard of the Star Trek genre was named after one of the Piccard's Quote Link to comment
+CapeDoc
Spot on GR! Jauque Picard and Don Walsh did it in the Trieste in 1960. It took over 5 hours to sink to the bottom. No one has even got close to as deep as they traveled over the 50 years since they did it. First man on the moon...pha! Quote Link to comment

Yay I answered correctly do I get to go now!!! Seriously we should probably have some reasonable time limit to keep the game flowing. Has any one PM'd GlobaRat to find up whats up? I once received a gentle nudge via PM that it was my turn as sometimes one gets busy and forgets to check the forums. Just so GR does not get a deluge of messages I will PM him right now so if you have not already there will be no need to now..... Trev Quote Link to comment

+trevorh7000
I should be able to get this one as I spent quite a bit of time checking this areas out recently in GE I was mesuring how close to Africa Europe really is I am sure its wrong but for want of a better guess Tangiers? +GlobalRat
Trev - you're it -Tangiers in Morocco is it. Just out of interest:- Guess it is the age old question of what defines a "City". Definition varies across the world, example in Europe a general requirement is that it must have a Cathedral. Population requirements seem to vary between 5000-10000 people. In some countries it may merely be an administrative seat to qualify. Bizerte City in Tunisia is defined as a city, being the oldest city in Tunisia and the seat of local government. It's a full 2 degrees further north than Tangiers and is 13km from Ras ben Sakka which is most northern point of the African continent. Take it away Trev. Good question = I just went with an Arab country energy study I have been using - and they define Tangiers as the northernmost "city" in Africa. So yes - it is subjective and I did not look further into their assumptions. Thanks for the pointer though on checking "facts" Quote Link to comment
+trevorh7000
Thanks - I also thought I was wrong as when I googled I also found that other place was considered the northern most. Anyway if I had not been studying that area via GE Inever would have guessed Tangier! How many people died during the construction of the Panama Canal? I'll accept to the nearest couple of thousand!!! Trev Quote Link to comment

+GlobalRat
Darn, Pooks took my number. I'm sure they are close, recall Paul Theroux's description of events in The Patagonian Express. Most workers died of disease. My lottery pick is.........mmm...... 30000 then. Quote Link to comment
+CapeDoc
Interested to see the answer (though I thought that it may have been a similar question about Bain's Kloof Pass, knowing the Pooks). I'll opt for the bigger figures..... 750 000 Quote Link to comment
+DamhuisClan
My guess would be a little lower. Lets say 110 000. Wasn't it there were they had problems with mosquitoes, and washed the whole site down with soap, and till today there are very few mosquitoes. If that is the case then maybe my number is a little low? Quote Link to comment

I first guessed 40 000 and then thought well the question said "to the nearest couple of thousand" so I thought maybe not so many 10s of thousands, and maybe something in-between. +the pooks
Thanks CnC Some people think that Belgium is only known for it's chocolate. This is as wrong as you can be so here's a double question: 1: The first synthetic material was invented by a Belgian: name the inventor or name of the material 2: A musical instrument was invented by a Belgian: Which instrument (bonus: name the inventor). +the pooks
Boo, down with double questions After all if 2 players each get one question right, who gets to ask the next question It's all a fun thing, so I'm very relaxed about it. I've already thought of the case where 2 players each get one question right I'll just volunteer that any of the two can ask the next question on a first come first ask basis. If somebody gets one right and nothing else is forthcoming then the one answer is good enough... Quote Link to comment
