Almost all of your questions can be answered here: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/

It has to be one of the most thorough, unbiased place to find information on the Oregon. Go through all of the information and I believe most of your questions will be answered.

Thanks to g-o-cachers

Go into Setup and then Maps and make sure that the TOPO map is enabled.

As long as you have the topo map enabled in the profile you are using the 3D view should work if the maps have high enough resolution DEM. I can't honestly tell based on the Garmin site but based on the lack of a claim I would guess that they don't.

When you look at your map page do you see relief shading where there is elevation change? If not, the maps don't have DEM and wouldn't be supported in the 3D view.

It is also possible the DEM isn't high enough resolution to support 3D view. For example the basemaps that come with the 300 have a very course DEM but 3D view isn't supported.

Canadian topo does not support DEM.

That is not quite correct. The current version of Topo Canada on CD does not have DEM data. However, the micro-SD version that came out recently does have DEM data.

Cool, I was looking at that just today and the website said it the micro had the same info as the cd
