brawl100
Hi I am new to geocaching and so far have just used maps. My sat nav for the car is faulty and I am looking to replace it. I have been told that the Garmin Nuvi 255 w will do both jobs . When I look on the Garmin web site it says it is not geocach friendly. Will it work? for both Quote Link to comment
+Red90
Not really. They lock to roads, don't zoom in very close and don't have a navigation (compass arrow) screen. The only Nuvis with proper Geocaching support are the 5xx series. Quote Link to comment
+Damin69
I have the 255w but use it in addition to my GPSMAP 60CSx. I use the Nuvi for the road routing and paperless features. And the 60 for all off road. But for using for just strait caching as stated above. Not a good choice. :-( Quote Link to comment
+StarBrand
Yes it can be done. But to answer your question - No - it is not suitable for the task of Geocaching. Better to leave it in the car and grab an inexpensive handheld like a Garmin venture HC. Quote Link to comment
Shedhunters
I use a Nuvi 255w for geocaching. I use the map navigation to get within easy walking distance of the cache. Once out of the car I go to the "where am I" section in the GPS. I do write down on paper the coordinates, and once out on the hike to the cache, I look at the "where am I" coordinates in the GPS, then look at my coordinates that I wrote down on paper. Once my coordinates are very close to each other, or the same, then I know I'm at ground zero Yes it is true, the 255w is not waterproof, and if you drop it, more than likely it will break, so be careful when out in the woods Quote Link to comment
