This will not necessarily be used for geocaching, however. I like to ride my ATV and I am occasionally in areas that my work Nextel does not have coverage. Because of that I would like to find a used smart phone that works on a network other than Nextel. The phone will only be used for wireless 911 in an emergency or I may possibly buy pre-pay minutes. I would like to get one that also has either wi-fi or GPS that will work directly from the satellites and not via the cell phone network. Does anybody know what smart phones would meet these requirements? Also, is Ebay the best place to buy a used smart phone. (I already have a Garmin StreetPilot 2730 for automobile navigating and it is possible I will get another GPS soon for a second vehicle and/or one for geocaching.) Quote Link to comment
MtnHermit Posted October 29, 2008 Share Posted October 29, 2008 Why not SPOT? Then you'd at least have satellite instead of cell tower coverage. While it's only one way it is designed for exactly 911 calls and an occasional I'm okay message. Much cheaper than another cell plan too. Quote Link to comment
