Check down further in the list of forums and you'll find regions which will have your local area. Also, you could find out what local geocaching clubs are around you and join that (I know Florida has at least one, not sure what the name or where to find though).

You could start by posting to the South and Southeast Regional forum (where this will probably be moved to shortly anyway).

 

Also keep an eye open for local Geocaching events. You may be able to find one here

The best way I have found to find the local clubs is to check the pages of caches near your home (your town and surrounding towns). Good chance that _someone_ is part of a local group, and they tend to put their club banners on their cache pages. Then just click on the banners.
