Cointest!

Wandering Vikings

Recommended Posts

Hanging in there with another rhyme for day four of the cointest:

If you go out in the woods today

Looking for tupperware in disguise,

If you go into the woods today

Be ready for a surprise.

For every cacher ever there was

Will gather there for certain, because

Today's the day the caaaachers have their picnic.

If you go out in the woods today,

You'd better not go alone.

There are muggles in the woods today,

So maybe just stay at home.

But every cacher ever there was

Will gather there for certain, because

Today's the day the caaaachers have their picnic.

Every cacher that's been good

Is sure of some swag today.

There's lots of wonderful hides to find

and wonderful games to play.

Beneath the trees, where nobody sees

They'll hide and seek as long as they please

Today's the day the caaaachers have their picnic.

And every cacher ever there was

Will gather there for certain, because

Today's the day the caaaachers have their picnic.

The Greatest Cache Found.

Mirror, Mirror in the hall

Where is the greatest cache of them all?

It is, It is, where it is not.

The place you once looked and forgot

Not in the valley beneath the bow

Not in the riverbed where it is low

Not in the mountains rising high.

Not in the clouds where planes pass by

Neither found in oceans wide & deep

Nor in cave where bats find sleep

It is not so tricky it can’t be found

And not translucent in camo bound.

It is always the closest one near

Yet in your searching you’ve lost it I fear

To find the Greatest, in yourself start

Beacause the Greatest Cache is in your heart!

Epilogue

Hide not your cache where others can’t see

Wear it, share it, and keep it free.

Entry #2

Hush little baby don't make a sound

Papa's lookin' for a cache on the ground

If Papa cannot find that cache

He'll still get a poison ivy rash

If that rash does not go away

Hidden all those caches will stay

If we can't venture into the woods

We'll search for "park 'n go's" for the goods

If the station wagon were to go

I'll take you in the stroller lookin' for a micro

If there are no micros in sight

Baby you and I will get on a flight

If a flight we are able to make

I'll dig us up some Travelbugs to take

If we drop a few bugs here and there

All this caching fun you and I will share!

Thanks!

THE NIGHT BEFORE COINFEST

or....

The coin junkies Version of Christmas...

Twas the night before Coinfest, when all through the house

Not a cacher was stirring, except ATmouse;

The coins were all packaged and ready with care,

In preparation of trading that soon would be there;

The Fox & Hound nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of shiny things danced in their heads;

And mamma in her Hikers, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for our nightly nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and lost my stash.

The moon beamed bright on the ground below

A glow in the dark appearance to objects below,

When, what to my sleepy eyes should appear,

But a huge ammo can, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and slick,

I knew in a moment it must be Geo-Nick.

More rapid than FTFs his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Spartacus! now, Anthus! now, Malder and Bertha!

On, Tsun! On sweetlife! on, Backhiker and Eartha!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now cache away! Cache away! Cache away all!"

As magnetic words that before WRITE SHOP ROBERT fly,

When they meet with a cointest, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the cachers they flew,

With the sleigh full of swag, and Geo-Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and dancing of each little spoof.

As fast as Geocoinfairy and Ida can turn hope around,

Down the chimney Geo-Nick came with a bound.

He was dressed all in Bling, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were tarnished with briers and soot;

A bundle of swag he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a cacher just opening his pack.

He looked so lovable you could give him a hug,

You could tell he'd been bitten by the geocoinbug

His eyes -- how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like bluecherry!

His tight little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as you know;

The stump of a pencil he held tight in his teeth,

And the log book pages encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a gigantic round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of geo-jellies.

He was chubby and plump, like the Geo_Leprechaun elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the caches; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his Ride, to his team gave a train whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, as he rode to the West,

"Happy Caching to all, and to all a good CoinFest."

Could GeoNick be the new mystery Coiner?

Tune in tomorrow for.....

The Ballad of Coinawatha on the wigoweb trails By the lake didIwinna.

Jack be nimble,

Jack be quick,

Jack jump over the candlestick.

What's your hurry?

Not so fast

That #@$# micro?

You just drove past.

Jack go slower,

Jack be smart,

You'll find that micro,

Right near the start.

And that's rhyme #7 with just one more day and one more rhyme to go.

Thanks for creating this fun contest. It's been a challenge ... but fun ... to come up with a different rhyme each day. And I've been awed by the verbal dexterity of my fellow cachers.

My coin lies in someone's cache

My coin lies in a far away land

My coin lies in someone's cache

I hope it will be retrieved by a cache's hand!...

... I hope that will be retrieved by a geocacher's hand!!!

Last night as I lie on my pillow,

Last night as I lie on my bed,

I dreamed that my coin was stollen

A muggle just took it from there....

Oh bring back, bring back

Bring back my coin to me, to me,

Oh bring back, bring back, bring back my coin to me!!!

I woke up and run to my laptop

I searched in the site for the truth,

and saw that I was only dreaming

and felt like a completely fool!!

Bug Spray Joe was a very bold soul,

And a very bold soul was he.

He'd crawl through the weeds, pass through all the brush,

Finding all the caches he could see.

Every cache had a prize to be won,

And some very fine swag had he, had he.

Looking up, looking down, Joe would look all around,

Finding all the caches he could see.

Bug Spray Joe was a very bold soul,

And a very bold soul was he.

He'd climb over tree limbs, duck under the thorns,

Just like all of us, don't you agree?

This was such a tough one to judge, I wish we could send a coin to all the entrants!

But after much deliberation... The winners are:

1st place - CanadaKate

2nd place - cache in hand

Honorable mentions

- fingers crossed

- GATOULIS

The winners will need to PM us with their address so we can ship them their prizes. Honorable mentions need to also specify either a gold or a silver coin.

Thanks to everyone who entered, it was so much fun reading all the posts, I think we will have to do another cointest soon!

2nd place - cache in hand

(cache in hand also had multiple entries that we loved, our favorite was...)

Twas the night before coinfest

And my trade bag was light

My plans to have filled it

Just hadn't gone right

The braces and fillings

And a huge football cast

Were far more important

In the times that had passed

My caching companion

There with me in the den

Was cuddled up to me

With her crossword and pen

The children were snuggled

Quite content in their bed

Their college tuition

Being spent in my head

Dragons and faeries

And pirates and more

Nickel and copper

And gold coins galore

I swapped and I traded

For the coins that I sought

Ones Id missed out on

When others had bought

My consciousness fading

With those thoughts in my mind

I was really quite lucky

To my fate I resigned

For it wasn't the coin trades

That made GCF sweet

But all those neat cachers

That I soon was to meet

When all of a sudden

There arose a large clatter

My wife was concerned

But I said pay no matter

Twas only a brown truck

But it gave us a fright

They pass by quite often

And deliver at night

She snuggled back softly

And had redonned her pen

When the silence was shattered

Not once but again

The doorbell was ringing

As I leaped to my feet

My wife there beside me

Also out of her seat

I flew down the hallway

Like the toss of a hat

A yowling behind me

Meant Id stepped on the cat

With socks on the tile

I slid straight past the door

Which my wife calmly answered

And made quite a score

A package she'd signed for

E're I rose from all fours

She thrust it towards me

And she said this is yours

It was wrapped all in paper

And it weighed half a ton

Some strange heiroglyphics

Upon it were done

No way could I read them

As it sat in my hand

This package I tell you

Was from some other land

My wife stood there smiling

In her eye that soft glint

It was then that I noticed

The words "Chinese Mint"

In seconds the paper

Lay strewn all about

What once was a box

Let its contents spill out

A trader's delight

Then my eyes did behold

A treasure so precious

Nickle, Silver, and Gold

Two hundred and fifty

Of my own coins to trade

I stood in amazement

At this deal that she'd made

And the last thing I heard

As she slipped from the hall

Was "Have fun at the coinfest

And don't trade them all"

CBT69 for...

Twas g.p.s.-ey, and the shaded brush

Did wave, and block the signal;

sang loudly did the morning thrush,

And the geo caches were original.

"Beware the geocoin, my son!

The shine that draws, the codes that pull!

Beware the camo micro, and shun

The junk cache full!"

He took his gps in hand:

Long time the skip signal he fought—

So rested he by the decoy tree,

And stood awhile in thought.

And as in sneaky thought he stood,

The micro, with hidden grace,

sat quietly in the whistling wood,

all hidden in it's place!

One, two! One, two! and through and through

The GPS went north, and back!

He found it true, and within clue

To the next hide track

"And hast thou found the multi-cache?

Come to sign, my searching son!

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callash!"

This multi-cache was won!.

Twas g.p.s.-ey, and the shaded brush

Did wave and block the signal;

sang loudly did the morning thrush,

And the geo caches were original.

JJG10101 for...

The sun did not shine,

it was too wet to cache,

so I went to the mailbox,

my boots they did splash.

I opened the lid,

and reached deep inside,

looking for something,

both thin and quite wide.

At the window I saw,

Sally's eyes full of hope,

"Did the box hold something?"

Alas, the verdict was "nope."

So, retreat I did,

to the warmth of the house,

sat down at the desk,

grabbing a wireless mouse.

The coin would come,

of that I was sure,

this coin-fever I have,

could there be any cure?

With longing and sighs,

and my wishes at bay,

I began to realize

no coin would come this rainy day.

Then Sally stood up,

as tall as a stalk,

a postman was coming,

marching straight up the walk.

He knocked, he did,

that man in all gray,

A package he offered,

on this glorius, great day.

We ripped it open,

we happy few,

a coin we held,

it was both shiny and new.

So though it did rain,

and the roof sprung a leak,

inside we admired,

the best coin of the week.

fingers crossed for...

The GPS and the cacher went to see

In a beautiful pea-green van

They took some hints,

and plenty of mints

Wrapped up in a cache list plan

The cacher looked up to the sky above,

And sang to an unfound cache,

"O lovely cache, O cache, I seek,

What a beautiful Cache you are,

You are,

You are!

What a beautiful Cache you are!"

GPS bleeped to the Cacher, "You have arrived",

At a charmingly sweet little spot!

Oh! Here let it be;

Under this tree,

Another smiley I've got?"

They headed away for another cache today,

When the batteries showed they were low

And there in a wood a Ammo Can stood,

With batteries on the top of the swag,

The swag,

The swag,

With batteries on the top of the swag,

"Dear Can, is it a drag to swap for one swag

Your batteries?" Said the Cacher, "I will."

So he took them away, and were installed the same day

By the cacher who lives on the hill.

They dined on some spam they got from a can,

Which they ate with a runcible spoon;

And GPSr in hand on the edge of the sand

They danced by the light of the moon,

The moon,

The moon,

They danced by the light of the moon

Thanks again to all the entrants, I wish we could send everyone a coin!

This was a very tough cointest to judge!

Woo hoo!!

What a wonderful surprise. I was hoping for an honourable mention but never expected to take first place, given all the funny and clever entries.

Credit is due the 8 and 10 year old junior geocachers at my house who provided suggestions and inspiration (and are why I'm so familiar with The Teddybear's Picnic in the first place). So this prize will definitely be shared with Team_BG, the name under which the rest of the family caches.

Thank you again for organizing this contest.

Happy caching everyone!

Yay! My prize arrived today. Thanks so much for a fun cointest and a more-funner prize. :):laughing:

Well, it took a little longer for the mail to reach Canada but there was great excitement when the mail arrived today bearing three beautiful geocoins. I've kept one for myself and have given one to each of the two junior geocachers of Team_BG who contributed ideas to the rhymes I came up with for the cointest.

Thank you, again, for this great cointest and the wonderful prize.
