Cointest!

Wandering Vikings

Recommended Posts

This is my very first cointest so please bear with me as I figure out how it goes!

In honor of my current favorite coin, The Greatest Cache ('mirror coin' shown below) I am challenging you to twist your favorite nursery rhyme to a Geocaching theme.

The back of these coins reads;

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall,

Where is the Greatest Cache of all?

I *know* we have some fabulously creative posters on here, so show me what you've got in the rhyming department!

Cointest will run for one week, 10/3-10/10 and prizes will be as follows-

First Prize- Full Set of Greatest Cache (Antique Gold, Antique Silver and Polished Gold LE)

Second Prize- Polished Gold LE

Honorable Mentions (hoping for at least 4, but it depends on how many entries we get) your choice of either the Antique Gold or Antique Silver standard edition coin.

edited to add- One entry per day please! (Thanks fairyhoney!)

If you have any questions please let me know... (Like I said its my first attempt!)

Please put a travel bug in my old cache;

If you haven't got a geocoin, then God bless you!

Thanks for a fun cointest!

Ahhhh fresh meat....I mean a new cacher!!! Welcome aboard!

Let me give this a try.

A coin a day

Sends the doctor away

Coin in the morning

Doctor's warning

Shiny coin at night

Starves the doctor outright

Polish a coin then going to bed

Knock the doctor on the head

Three each day, seven days a week

Ruddy coin, ruddy cheek

Lovely coin and thanks for the cointest.

Little evil micro, sat in a cache,

waiting for someone to come its way;

Along came a fairyhoney, who sat down beside it

And took evil micro away.

Edit to say...Dang-it!

I have another rhyme

in mind

but it will have to wait

for another time!

Hopefully nobody uses it!

To the tune of The House of the Rising Sun

There is a cache in Ogden

They call it Bug Hotel

And it's been the ruin of many a cacher

And Signal I know I'm one

My mother was a cacher

She made me my first stash

My father was a hiking man

Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a hiker needs

Is a GPS and boot

And the only time he's satisfied

Is when he's on a route

Oh cachers tell your children

Not to do what I have done

Spend your lives in bush and bramble

In search of the Bug Hotel

Well, I got one foot on the trail

The other foot in the creek

I'm goin' back to the Bug Hotel

To retrieve my Geocoin

And it's been the ruin of many a cacher

And God I know I'm one

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick.

Jack, it's a micro you freaking twit.

Ring around the lamp post.

Pocket full of compost

lame is, lame is

please let me drown

Jakie Jackie micro eye

Hid a cache and made us cry.

Hide Hide Hide your cache

gently in the green

merely merily merily

caching is quite the dream

Once upon a time a cache was hid

and the finders lived happly ever after.

Have you ever danced with a cache in the pale moonlight?

Yeah, some aren't the kids rhymes. Don't count those!

Twas g.p.s.-ey, and the shaded brush

Did wave, and block the signal;

sang loudly did the morning thrush,

And the geo caches were original.

"Beware the geocoin, my son!

The shine that draws, the codes that pull!

Beware the camo micro, and shun

The junk cache full!"

He took his gps in hand:

Long time the skip signal he fought—

So rested he by the decoy tree,

And stood awhile in thought.

And as in sneaky thought he stood,

The micro, with hidden grace,

sat quietly in the whistling wood,

all hidden in it's place!

One, two! One, two! and through and through

The GPS went north, and back!

He found it true, and within clue

To the next hide track

"And hast thou found the multi-cache?

Come to sign, my searching son!

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callash!"

This multi-cache was won!.

Twas g.p.s.-ey, and the shaded brush

The sun did not shine,

it was too wet to cache,

so I went to the mailbox,

my boots they did splash.

I opened the lid,

and reached deep inside,

looking for something,

both thin and quite wide.

At the window I saw,

Sally's eyes full of hope,

"Did the box hold something?"

Alas, the verdict was "nope."

So, retreat I did,

to the warmth of the house,

sat down at the desk,

grabbing a wireless mouse.

The coin would come,

of that I was sure,

this coin-fever I have,

could there be any cure?

With longing and sighs,

and my wishes at bay,

I began to realize

no coin would come this rainy day.

Then Sally stood up,

as tall as a stalk,

a postman was coming,

marching straight up the walk.

He knocked, he did,

that man in all gray,

A package he offered,

on this glorius, great day.

We ripped it open,

we happy few,

a coin we held,

it was both shiny and new.

So though it did rain,

and the roof sprung a leak,

inside we admired,

the best coin of the week.

Thanks for the welcome.

I've been reading and learning for the last few weeks. This cointest inspired me to jump in. I hope to post another rhyme or two this week ... with the assistance of the junior cachers in my house.

Old MacDonald went for a micro,

Ee-i-ee-i-o,

And at the micro there was a muggle,

Ee-i-ee-i-o,

With a muggle-muggle here,

And a muggle-muggle there,

Here a muggle, there a muggle,

Everywhere a muggle-muggle,

Old MacDonald went for a micro,

Ee-i-ee-i-o.

The GPS and the cacher went to see

In a beautiful pea-green van

They took some hints,

and plenty of mints

Wrapped up in a cache list plan

The cacher looked up to the sky above,

And sang to an unfound cache,

"O lovely cache, O cache, I seek,

What a beautiful Cache you are,

You are,

You are!

What a beautiful Cache you are!"

GPS bleeped to the Cacher, "You have arrived",

At a charmingly sweet little spot!

Oh! Here let it be;

Under this tree,

Another smiley I've got?"

They headed away for another cache today,

When the batteries showed they were low

And there in a wood a Ammo Can stood,

With batteries on the top of the swag,

The swag,

The swag,

With batteries on the top of the swag,

"Dear Can, is it a drag to swap for one swag

Your batteries?" Said the Cacher, "I will."

So he took them away, and were installed the same day

By the cacher who lives on the hill.

They dined on some spam they got from a can,

Which they ate with a runcible spoon;

And GPSr in hand on the edge of the sand

They danced by the light of the moon,

The moon,

The moon,

They danced by the light of the moon

OK, I know the rules say only one per day, but this one just has to be posted tonight for certain reasons. It doesn't have to count for the cointest

Twas the night before coinfest

And my trade bag was light

My plans to have filled it

Just hadn't gone right

The braces and fillings

And a huge football cast

Were far more important

In the times that had passed

My caching companion

There with me in the den

Was cuddled up to me

With her crossword and pen

The children were snuggled

Quite content in their bed

Their college tuition

Being spent in my head

Dragons and faeries

And pirates and more

Nickel and copper

And gold coins galore

I swapped and I traded

For the coins that I sought

Ones Id missed out on

When others had bought

My consciousness fading

With those thoughts in my mind

I was really quite lucky

To my fate I resigned

For it wasn't the coin trades

That made GCF sweet

But all those neat cachers

That I soon was to meet

When all of a sudden

There arose a large clatter

My wife was concerned

But I said pay no matter

Twas only a brown truck

But it gave us a fright

They pass by quite often

And deliver at night

She snuggled back softly

And had redonned her pen

When the silence was shattered

Not once but again

The doorbell was ringing

As I leaped to my feet

My wife there beside me

Also out of her seat

I flew down the hallway

Like the toss of a hat

A yowling behind me

Meant Id stepped on the cat

With socks on the tile

I slid straight past the door

Which my wife calmly answered

And made quite a score

A package she'd signed for

E're I rose from all fours

She thrust it towards me

And she said this is yours

It was wrapped all in paper

And it weighed half a ton

Some strange heiroglyphics

Upon it were done

No way could I read them

As it sat in my hand

This package I tell you

Was from some other land

My wife stood there smiling

In her eye that soft glint

It was then that I noticed

The words "Chinese Mint"

In seconds the paper

Lay strewn all about

What once was a box

Let its contents spill out

A trader's delight

Then my eyes did behold

A treasure so precious

Nickle, Silver, and Gold

Two hundred and fifty

Of my own coins to trade

I stood in amazement

At this deal that she'd made

And the last thing I heard

As she slipped from the hall

Was "Have fun at the coinfest

And don't trade them all"

Advent, advent a coin in hand.

First one, then two, then three, then four,

then Christ Child will be caching in front of ur door.

Well, this is one of my german favourite christmas poems whe i was a child. I rephrased it to caching and to english, i do not know if u have it in english. The German original goes like this:

Advent, advent ein ichtlein brennt,

erst eins, dann zwei, dann drei, dann vier,

dann steht das Cristkind vor der Tür.

Thx for the cointest, it´s really a great idea :)

Mary had a Magellan,

Magellan, Magellan,

Mary had a Magellan

but could not find a cache.

It led her down a hill one day,

hill one day, hill one day,

It led her down a hill one day

but the cache was at the top.

So she bought herself a Garmin,

a Garmin, a Garmin

So she bought herself a Garmin

and loves the accuracy.

Now she has a thousand finds,

thousand finds, thousand finds,

Now she has a thousand finds

and a Maggie for sale.

Film container sits in the old guard rail,

Simp-e-ler to find that your neighbor’s mail,

Ouch!...rusty metal. Yikes...yellow jacket!

Lame this cache must be.

Nano-cache placed at the shopping mall,

Satellites are blocked by the large brick wall.

Look...like a staker. Guards...call the coppers.

Handcuffed I might be.

Hide-A-Key put somewhere in the playground,

All the kids are curious to see what I found.

Leave...quick, because. Moms...call the fuzz.

Gee what fun for me.

Ammo box hidden deep within the trees,

Smell the fresh air, see the falling leaves,

Trails...long and wide. Hike...and take your time.

That’s the game for me.

Old MacDonald found an ammo box,

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

He got afraid and ...wet his socks,

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

Without thinking he phoned to the police

they came and saw all this

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

At first they thought we found some "stuff"

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

But when they saw the label, laughed

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

The label said geocaching.com

and asked MacDonald put it back and go home

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

Police just knew this great game

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

but all ammo boxes look the same

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

Now the cache is back & if you have some luck

the codrinates that's what is takes

To find it, and log in the book

ee-eye, ee-eye oh

Hmm... probably I killed the song, right?? :)

Since Rhymes and songs are related, her is MY daily try . . .

One coin makes you happy

And one coin makes you smile

And the ones that stangers give you

Don't do anything at all

Go ask a cacher

When she she logs them all

And if you go chasing caches

And you know you're going to fail

Tell 'em a muggle smoking caterpillar

Has trashed area and trail

Poor Cacher

When she is so frail

When men on the pathway

Get up and tell you where to go

And you've just seen some kind of madness

And your GPSr moving slow

Go ask Cacher

I think she'll know

When logic and proportion

Have fallen off the map

And your Gizmo is talking backwards

And the trail Queen's stepped in crap!

Remember what Cacher said:

"Find the coin

Take the coin

Log the coin "

And here is one that the OP SHOULD appreciate without changing the wording :D

"Who's afraid of the Big Bad WOLVES,

Big, Bad WOLVES,

Big, Bad WOLVES

Who's afraid of the Big, Bad Wolves

Big, Bad WOLVES from SOUTH" :):D:D:D

The addiction goes ever on and on

Down from the begin where it began.

Now far ahead the addiction is still one,

And I must follow, if I can,

polishing the coins with my bare hands,

Until it shine like no way before

Where many coins and coiners meet.

And when this addiction end

I cannot say.

Goodbye sunshine it’s hard to spy,

Potential cache sites as I pass by,

Now that the rainy weather’s here,

Boggy ground everywhere,

Wellington boots again I wear.

Goodbye impulse caching on clement days,

It’s now the lousy weather that rules my ways,

Now that I’m stuck inside my home,

Until spring I’ll seldom roam,

But I will plan the hills to comb.

We had joy we had fun setting caches in the sun,

But the spots I had planned are no longer on solid land

Adieu good caching I’ll try not to cry,

I’ll surf the net and restrain that inward sigh,

When I see ‘pegs of sites ‘pon the screen,

Showing caches amid summer scene,

Blue sky above and resting in emerald green.

We had joy we had fun setting caches in the sun,

But the spots I had planned are no longer on solid land

We have joy we have fun, planning caches to be done,

Another year will come round, with more caches to be found.

My daily rhyme:

Jack and Jill went up the hill

hoping for really cool swag;

Jack fell over,

into the clover ...

and Jill came grumbling after.

['twas a good caching day which included introducing a friend to the sport and hiking through the autumn forest down to the lake with a few scenic surprises along the way]
