Leaving an ammo box at FTF prize

It seems like most FTF prizes are in the $5 range. I can get really nice ammo boxes for $4. Is it appropriate to place an ammo box as a FTF prize? If so could it have special instructions to place somewhere within ten miles to help create more in this area, as there are few?

Our most recent event cache had one cache hidden for it (out of 10 hidden by different cachers for the event) that had an ammo can and contents as a FTF prize. The theme of the event cache was to introduce new(er) cachers to various types and difficulties of hides and to encourage those cachers to attend the event and meet some of the more experienced local cachers. I thought it was a very nice thing to do but I don't think you can require the ammo can be hidden in any particular manner or area. You coul d encourage it but not require it.

thanks for all the comments. Maybe I will put a set of coordinates to the FTF prize in an envelope addressed to the FTF. In the box I will just put a congratulatory note and suggestion on placing in within a few miles or wherever they would like. Hey for $4 it seems like a decent prize to me.

I have often wondered about doing something like this. Not specifically and ammo can, but other things. I would love to see you go for it. :)

if they are FTF, how are they going to know which one to take.

:)

What they'd do is they would give the co-ords for the FTF ammo can in the main cache and the FTF would take them and would go and retrieve their prize.

I've done this!

I used a rather large ammo box and a smaller 30 caliber camo'd, stenciled, and gift-wrapped ready for the FTF inside the big one. It still took a month for FTF! I keep checking to see if they hide a cache with it. That was back in July and no hides yet.

I'm fairly new to caching and hadn't gotten nerve enough to place a cache until I found one that contained a NIP nano cache as part of the swag (not FTF though). I took the nano and placed it the next day. I had 2 people find it within 24 hours and that encouraged me to place a couple of larger caches. So yes, giving an ammo box or another type of container as an FTF gift or even as swag is a great idea!

I did this with two 30 cal ammo cans placed next to each other. The cache box was full of stuff, and a sticky note in the log indicated that the other can was a trade item. The empty can had a note inside saying that it was a trade item. The FTF prized was actually a geocoin, unactivated to keep. A month later I added the can. It took several finders and almost a year before someone wanted to take it, possibly because they had to carry it up a steep hill.

The can is a great idea, but remember it is a prize, a gift. They can do with it as they please.

Yeah they make great tool boxes or craft boxes. Don't assume it'll ever be used for geocaching!

I often leave camo'd ammo cans as FTF prizes.

(Acually, I hide them & leave the coords)

I haven't placed any requirements on the finder though.

that is a great idea....make the FTF another cache nearby...and they can keep it....NICE! I will need to try leaving a cache box/ammo can as the FTF nect time!

There's a use for them besides geocaches??? :)

I rather like the idea!
