Now I know why...

Many times when picking up a TB it will have a message about only going to caches, no events. I always wondered why people would say that. Now I know. One of my TB's was logged into an event and now, over a week later, it's still logged at that event. Now unless someone left it laying on a table somewhere at this picnic, it is not likely that it is still there. It went home with someone, I would hope. But even after 10 or so people "discovered" it, no one has logged that they have it. And I'm not the only one. There are probably a dozen TB's and/or coins still listed at that event. So now I know why people include that little rule on their TB's.

Thank you for letting me blow off steam about this annoying practice.

Going to an event today and will be sure to log anything I bring home.....

Events do seem to be a black hole for travellers. I have lost a couple to them, I think it is way too easy for the little kiddies to come by and just take them off the table never to be seen again.

Recently one of my Round Tuit geocoins was logged at an Ohio Geofest and I held my breath for the couple of weeks after as it just sat there. Then I received an apologetic email saying that the coin is fine and will be on it's way soon. Which it did but I can't say I was all that comfortable about the entire situation.

Phew...

-HHH

Earlier this summer I took a couple of TB's to a local event. I watched a person i did not know pick up one of them and say: "I like this one, i can help it move". I was happy that a TB I had brought there would not disappear into the Black Hole of TB's. It has now been six months and the person still has not logged it. The other TB I left there is still showing up at the event. I know it was not really left there. I thought I could trust all my local cahers. Now I know better and will never again take TB's to an event unless I directly hand the Bug over to a ccaher I already know well.

Many people who go to events and pick up bugs there will not log it as a pick until they go to place it somewhere. Perhaps thinking along the lines of not 'holding' on to it for ever and getting many nasty emails from the owner. Anonymous is their behavior pattern.

Many peope do not do 100 caches a day and will not get to place it for many months.

I know many of these 'reasons' are completely different from how many people operate, but I can't speak for just how MANY.

I'm always nervous if one of my bugs attends an event! My poor pink (actually camoflaged) flamingo has been sitting at a bar in Manchester, New Hampshire for two years now! She's a lawn flamingo! No one noticed her when they left?!?

Had one attend an event in Pennsylvania, and disappeared. It showed up three months later in a nearby cache! (Though I am still quite miffed at the event owner for bringing it back from Europe. I wants to travel the world, and finally made it to Europe! Now it's back in PA. Oh, well.)

Don't give up hope, deb. It may still be early days. I had a similar situation with one of mine, logged into an event then not moved for over two months. I was a bit miffed but got an apology when it was eventually moved and I felt bad as there were pretty extenuating circumstances. Sometimes real life just gets in the way!

Cheers.

The last (and first) event I went to, I logged a discover entry on a TB I'd found on the table. The TB owner emailed me asking if I had any inkling where it had come from/gone to, as it had been missing for a number of months. Turns out one of the attendees had grabbed it from a cache and never logged it or dropped it, until he dumped it (with a mess of others) on the table and walked away.

A couple of weeks later, as people started catching up on their logging it was back in play. Someone had grabbed it from the table, and just hadn't had a chance to log yet. I kept the event on my watchlist for about a month, and yes, 30 days after it was over people were still just getting around to logging their attendance. It happens.
