Wintertime
Now that Groundspeak has submitted a geocaching application to the App Store, who's up for writing an iPhone/iPod Touch app for benchmark hunting? It would be really great to have an application that could grab datasheets from the NGS website in real time, then extract the coordinates from each and map them. You could specific that you want a radius of one mile or two miles or whatever--just as you do on the NGS website. Of course, you can access the NGS website direct with an iPhone, because it has Safari, but it would be nice to have an app that could massage the retrieved data, not just display it. On the new iPhones, your current position could be fed directly from the GPS receiver to the application. On the older iPhones, you might need to mark your location on the map, unless the cell-tower triangulation is close enough for your use. On the Touch, I assume you'd have to give it your location. Then once the nearest marks are mapped, you could select one and have the application navigate you to it, via go-to distances and a compass. (Again, some of this would only work with the new iPhones.) So, who's up for downloading the iPhone SDK and having some fun? Patty Quote Link to comment

I have been using my iphone 3G to benchmark by accessing the gc.com and ngs websites and then using google maps to navigate to them. It works great, but an app to organize the info and spit it out would be a bonus. Quote Link to comment
AZcachemeister
I have the app all written, but I need an iPhone for testing. Please send one ASAP. Quote Link to comment
