Rosie's Rangers
Just saw a brief clip about geocaching on The One Show tonight, but they showed a shovel being used to dig up the cache! Quote Link to comment
Johnmelad
Just saw a brief clip about geocaching on The One Show tonight, but they showed a shovel being used to dig up the cache! Was a bit of a spoof, and was all about health care. But they could have done a bit of research first and shown us in a better light I suppose Quote Link to comment
Clyde.
Just saw it myself.....fancy digging up a public park...Just who is the cacher responsible Quote Link to comment
Lydford Locators
We caught a glimpse of it but it had finished before we realised what it was. I think you can watch it again on the BBC iplayer once the show has finished. Quote Link to comment
Donmoore
the topic was about using your postcode. now some poor folk are going to log on to gc.com and punch their postcode in and think their nearest cache is some where in sweden. hardly a good option. Quote Link to comment
Team RoKeT
Have to say I was disappointed by the item and wanted to share a story related to it.... I emailed the One Show about 3 weeks ago, having seen an item on dogs doing Flyball, suggesting they did an item on geocaching. The reply I got was that they weren't interested as they are a "current affairs" (or somesuch silly phrase) show and if it wasnt about knife crime they didnt want to know!!!! So I am especially surprised to see it appear tonight.... Needless to say I have emailed them again to point out their errors and suggest that they now produce a more balanced piece or at least correct the assumption that all cachers go around digging up parks! +MartyBartfast
If anyone's interested it's on iplayer here and the geocaching bit starts at about 00:10:30 but only lasts about 20 seconds. To be honest it's not worth the effort, so find something else to do with the 20 seconds Quote Link to comment

careygang
I'm glad it wasn't worth watching, being outside the UK I can't get any iplayer connections for TV, only the listen again for BBC Radio. Quote Link to comment
JimJinks
It looks like the segment was recorded in July as the top two caches on the search page shown (GCW7N7 & GCW7N9) were archived on 30/07 Quote Link to comment
alistair_uk
Why don't we contact the BBC and let them know. I think the new number is 03700 100222. All the responses will be passed to the producer of the programme. Hopefully they will at least mention that there was an error. Quote Link to comment

The Flying Boots
Several times in the past have I emailed the BBC to congratulate them on their programme's, especially the "Mountain" programme with Gryff Rhys Jones. This is the first time I've felt the need to complain and have just sent my complaint by email. Quote Link to comment
Fuchsiamagic
I once complained to the One Show by email about their bl**dy awful introductory music but they didn't even reply! Quote Link to comment
The Gillespie Clan
I've not seen the one show bit and I know this post is a local but radio York are doing an interview with Mrs Gillespie Clan tomorrow morning. Does any one know how many cachers there are in the UK and/or north Yorkshire? Quote Link to comment

SidAndBob
I've just received the following reply from the BBC. Seems as though you can imply anything as long as it's "not intended as a serious look at the hobby". I'm sure the general public will know it was meant to be "tongue in cheek". Thank you for your e-mail. Please accept our apologies for the delay in replying. We know our correspondents appreciate a quick response and we are sorry you have had to wait on this occasion. We note your concerns regarding the 'One Show' on 10 September and our item on Geocoaching. The item was not intended as a serious look at the hobby. It was simply a small sideways glance at how GPS is being used to create new sports and hobbies like these. The sequence did include the digging up of a treasure chest (although you don't actually see it being pulled from the ground). It was a tongue in cheek sequence which was in no way intended to portray a proper look at geocaching. We apologise, however, for any offence which may have been caused. This was never our intention. Please be assured that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC. Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.
